Hello survivors! I’m Evan, founder of Dead Drop Studios, independent solo developer, and creator of the Outbreak series. I’m very happy to be back to discuss both the PlayStation 5 system and to announce the all-new next-gen versions of each title in the Outbreak series starting with Outbreak: The New Nightmare which will be released on December 17th, 2020. Prepare to return to the world of next-gen survival horror.
It’s not fear that is killing you …
The Outbreak series aims to take you back to the glory days of survival horror. Each title in the series pays homage to the genre through challenging, brutal inventory management, challenging puzzles, and spreading knowledge through exploration of the environment and your gear. And zombies, lots of zombies! You’ll find intense action through shoulder-mounted snipers, fixed-camera third-person nightmares, and even a 2D “demake” filled with atmosphere and fear.
A beautiful apocalypse of the living dead
The new PS5 hardware allows for huge improvements in graphics fidelity and frame rates.
On all 3D titles in the Outbreak series, you will see massive improvements such as better real-time shadows, better farther graphics, improved texture and model details and much more! For example, in Outbreak: Epidemic and Outbreak: Lost Hope, you’ll find that the field of view available in front of your character has widened dramatically and spooky real-time shadows bring this horrific experience to life even at the edge of your vision. .
Even with all of these massive graphics enhancements, you’ll also find that every title in the Outbreak series performs better than ever during gameplay. Frame rates have more than doubled in some titles, allowing for even the most intense action. to feel sweet. Whether you run away from or face off against the living dead, you’ll have the best control imaginable as the game goes through complex environments and intense particle effects without missing a beat.
PS5 SSD delivers horror faster than ever
The improved graphics and frame rates are already a game-changer and the benefits don’t stop there. The PS5’s all-new high-speed solid-state drive allows developers like me to deliver all of these enhanced experiences while getting you into the game faster than ever. Across all titles, you’ll see load times drop dramatically as complex scenes now load up and are ready to play in seconds, sometimes instantly. From loading a new storyline, switching to co-op and customizing your survivors, everything is faster and helps you get trapped with the undead instead of trapping you in a loading screen.
Benefits of the DualSense Controller
Each title in the series plays better thanks to the ergonomic and technical improvements of the DualSense controller. You’ll find greater accuracy aligning headshots with the undead in Outbreak: Epidemic, while also benefiting from improved control schemes in titles like Outbreak: The New Nightmare. The action feels more lively thanks to the DualSense controller’s new haptic feedback, allowing for a more visceral experience as you expertly dispatch the undead and try to reach the escape zone to survive! And don’t forget to bring a friend as local co-op is fully supported in Outbreak: Epidemic, Outbreak: The New Nightmare, and Outbreak.
Your comments shape the apocalypse
In addition to all of these technical improvements, you’ll find many new quality of life features and bug fixes in each title. From improving your inventory management to balancing and other gameplay improvements, every game in the series plays better on PS5, and it’s all thanks to your feedback and engagement. Thank you for surviving with the Outbreak series and we look forward to a better apocalypse on PS5. See the schedule for the next releases below.
