To set the mood, watch the new “We are Legends” trailer and prepare for your first heist.
1. Sneak, distract, murder
Being stealthy has a lot of potential rewards. On the one hand, if you approach a player or an invisible guard from behind, you can assassinate them silently. If the guards are patrolling in pairs, be sure to time a double out with another outlaw. If you can’t see a way to get past them, throwing a stone is a handy way to distract the guards.
2. Don’t alert the guards
Being spotted by guards has several consequences. First, you’ll be highlighted in red, revealing your location to the entire enemy team until you manage to regain stealth. Second, you will trigger the lockout, causing the harrows to close and limiting your options or even trapping you. Remember that multiple characters can shake the guards using their thrown item, like Marianne’s Smoke Bomb.
3. Have everyone’s back
Your team is made up of four outlaws and the guards often use the buddy system, so in most situations it’s wise to stick together. Dividing into pairs can be an effective strategy for covering more ground, as you can still aid a spotted ally with a quick stealth withdrawal before things get out of hand.
4. Find effective character combinations
There are four Outlaws, each with multiple options for perks that can dramatically change their playstyle. Consider how your abilities work with the ones you play with. For example, a Tooke player may seek to stun the enemy, opening them up for an easy shot at the head of Robin.
5. Mark the targets
Teamwork is essential at Hood, so proper use of beacons makes all the difference. Once the enemy is spotted, mark them before engaging so that you can converge on them with your team. Marking can also help your outlaw allies know where the guards are, as well as ammo boxes, climbing ropes, shortcuts, and more. They will thank you for it.
6. Study the map
Each map is different, with its own shortcuts, choke points, sniper points, and more. A good thief always detects the target before entering, and when it turns into a fight to the death, there is all the more reason to get the upper hand.
7. Master your ultimate ability
Each character has a unique ultimate ability which is charged by taking out enemies and completing objectives. If used well, these abilities can be a game-changer. Use Robin’s Explosive Arrow to instantly take down tanky players or even a group of enemies, or to control space and choke points at crucial times. Tooke’s ability lets you heal those around you and grant them enhanced sight to spot enemies, even through walls.
8. Dodge and parry
Combat is all about timing and reading your opponent. Depending on the character you play, you will either have a dodge or a parry. Dodge allows you to evade any melee attack, but leaves you open to ranged attacks. Parry can defend against both, and if perfectly timed, it will even knock your opponent to the ground.
9. Pickpocket the sheriff
To steal the treasure from the State Vault, players must pick up the Sheriff’s Key. To find it, players must locate its patrol route which is marked with a line on the map. He has a contingent of guards at all times, but a daring player can steal the key on his own. Stealing the key reveals the location of the safe on the map to your team only and gives you a faster spawn timer as a bonus.
10. Open the safe
Only the person in possession of the key can open the safe. It takes a while, so be sure to stand up for the person doing it. The first team to take the chest first receives an experience bonus, and the enemy team may be on the lookout for an ambush if they found the chest before you did.
11. Use your unique disposable
Each character has a unique item they can throw, such as a smoke bomb, flash bang, or gas grenade. These are found in the gearboxes scattered around the maps. Perks make these items more special or allow you to carry more. For example, Tooke gains a Healing Grenade, a very powerful ability when used at the right time.
12. Carry the trunk
Melee characters (John and Tooke) carry the chest faster than ranged outlaws (Robin and Marianne). With the safe in your possession, it is up to you where to extract it. Make sure you choose a location that gives you an advantage, such as a location near your original spawn point.
13. Know how the winch works
Whoever completely extracts the treasure wins the game. Two people can winch at a time and you can spend stamina to winch faster for a short duration, but this makes you unable to defend yourself if you have to.
14. Defend your winchers
Anyone who winches is vulnerable, so they must be protected. Consider the layout of the location and how to defend it; points of view, lines of sight for snipers, directions from which the enemy team can approach without being seen – all of these things have a big impact. Marianne’s smoke grenades are a great way to cover the point of any Robins fishing a headshot, but it won’t help much against her Explosive Arrow. It is important to know when to engage, and then to defend the winchers at all costs.
We hope these tips will help you jumpstart your new career as an outlaw and potential legend.
