The Overwatch 2 Team organized an AMA (Ask me whatever) in the game’s subforum on Reddit and we were able to learn about various aspects of the game, the history of the characters and other matters that will appeal to the most fans of the franchise. However, regarding new details of the delivery there was little information, but relevant.
John Lafleur, technical director of the title, answered the question
Beta before launch
Recall that the game lost its director Jeff Kaplan, who also directed the first installment and worked at Blizzard for more than a decade. Since Kaplan left the company there have been many doubts, but today its developers have called for calm and remember that they also have years of experience designing video games.
On the other hand, Lafleur also revealed that the Switch may not see so many better graphics compared to the first installment. The developer talked about model improvements and global lighting and said that with the Switch there would be some compromises due to the limitations of the hardware, something that we could expect.
He also denied that there is a version of the first Overwatch for PS5 or Xbox Series X / S. For Lafleur, it is better to focus on Overwatch 2 and its possible versions than on a new edition of Overwatch 1.
Overwatch 2 does not have a release date yet and it must be remembered that the first installment will receive all the graphic improvements and gameplay for free. However, Overwatch 2 will have PVE missions and possibly a story mode exclusively.
