You know how effective movie trailers are to synchronize all the shots and sound effects to suit the music – that's what it feels like playing Pistol Whip, our first FPS for PlayStation VR gaming action. You will be the hero of your action movie scenes, with hand-drawn interludes and harmonized objects in a burst of ambient sound.
Since launching him on PC late last year, Pistol Whip has moved on to become one of the most widely read VR games available, even as the recipient of the Immersive Reality Game of the Year at the 2020 Dice Awards. We are very excited to bring the Pistol Whip to the PSR family for the final this summer, so you can be the worst action figure ever meant to be.
With Pistol Whip, we took divine inspiration from the tone and animation of action-movie action movies like John Wick and Equilibrium, as well as Class V VPS like Beat Saber and Superhot. Designed for pick-up-and-play with a simple dead, single-control button, the Pistol Whip is easy to play but difficult to master. By default, you'll use a single PlayStation Move controller to target and shoot, encouraging you to wrap your weapon with your offhand like a real bad movie.
Unlike traditional rhythm games, the Pistol Whip features dynamic levels instead of static void. Comfortable, constant pressure moves you through various "scenes" inspired by movie theater settings, from bank robbers to airship attacks. Each scene comes with three difficulties, and has a variety of gameplay options and settings, including electromagnetic welds, mixing flow, challenging you, and promoting new game modes as you chase friends and world leaderboards.
And unlike traditional rhythm games, the Pistol Whip has no line in the sand; you have complete freedom to shoot, deliver, and melee projects (a whip of rifles) in a rhythm that you feel is right, indirectly. You will get bonus points when you release music badges, but you can play Pistol Whip completely rhythmically as an old arcade shooter. Whether you play smartly or musically, Pistol Whip offers a player agency that has never been seen before.
The Pistol Whip is designed literally by our team of VR Veteran developers to take advantage of the tech experience. With Pistol Whip on PlayStation VR, you'll use the width of your space to take out bullets, avoid obstacles, and touch other gun whips. With a sense of durability, Pistol Whip also can be used as a fitness tool that is ideal for the maintenance of your best bod. Also, it's fun to watch and looks to play it well.
Like the ancient VR group, we also focused on luxury. At Pistol Whip, we came up with the first console design that prevents motion sickness while playing, or during very busy movements. With this design, you can feel motionless movement without fear of nausea, allowing you to focus on the action and stay in tune. If you move sensationally and capture VR games for that reason, Pistol Whip may be ready for you.
When Pistol Whip debuted on PS VR this summer, the story didn't end there. We will continue to support the game with content updates over the coming months, introducing new scenes, customization options, and more to unveil.
