Will PS4 games be playable on PS5?
For a long season, the news about the next generation of consoles came from the hand of great ignorance. And although we already know some of the PlayStation 5 technical specifications, we still have in our way great unknowns. Especially in regards to its appearance or even the games that we can enjoy from the beginning.
But one of the great functions that this console will include is the return of backward compatibility. A function unfortunately extinct on PlayStation 4 and that made many players ask the big question: why is Xbox One backward compatible with Xbox 360 and PS4 not with PS3?
Backward compatibility returns with PlayStation 5 after its absence on PS4
However, after many rumors signaling the return of backward compatibility, Sony finally confirmed this great news. Although not all with good points since, as they have mentioned to date, only PS4 games will be seen on PS5 while the previous consoles will be left out of this interesting proposal.
Of course, although this does not eliminate the possibility that our favorite games are present, the second downside arrives. As confirmed by Mark Cerny himself, in principle we would only count with 100 games within this backward compatibility, which led them to indicate that they would be the most popular games. An information that, later, they pointed out adding that they believe that most of the 4,000 PS4 titles will be playable on PlayStation 5.
PS5 will be compatible with most PS4 titles
Unfortunately we don't have many clues as to how this backward compatibility will really work. Although what was mentioned was that players will be able to install digital PS4 games on PS5. To do this, indicating that the use of an external hard drive will be necessary. The reason? Power free internal space and that it be limited to the exclusive games of the new generation console.
Regarding how this opportunity will be enjoyed, Cerny did not hesitate to indicate that the titles will have significant improvements both visually and performance. So that players can enjoy their titles with the best experience. Although, apparently, this step to the new generation console has certain points that do not make the task too easy.
They indicated that it will not be possible to have the entire catalog of compatible titles available from the beginning for a simple reason. Not all games are prepared to be compatible with the hardware of the new console. Thus, these titles must be treated one by one. And while it may take a while to see the full catalog, starting with 100 titles doesn't seem like a bad plan.
PlayStation Now will continue to be present on PlayStation 5
Another big question for gamers came together with Sony's streaming service. PS Now offers us a wide range of games, both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 to be able to enjoy both on PC and on the company's current console. So the big question came along with whether the next-gen console would maintain the service.
In the words of Yushiro Osaki himself, from Sony's Network division, this service will continue to be present in the new generation. In fact it went so far as to ensure that, after the launch of the console, new titles would be added to the service every month. Although, of course, we will have to keep waiting to see the steps taken by the company once the new console is on the market.
As we prepare to test the great benefits of the new generation console, we can not lose sight of the titles that could come from launch. A series of 100 most popular titles on PlayStation 4 that could consist of exclusive console games as well as some of the most interesting.
