The Olympic Exclusion Zone is full of dangers and our car is the only thing keeping us safe. That is why it is very important to keep it at its best and in this small guide of advice and ‘tips’ for beginners we will give you recommendations so that you and your car survive the first hours of the game. Pacific Drive.
First we want to invite you to read our review of this game.
Before you start playing
Before starting to give you advice and ‘tips’ in this guide Pacific Drivewe want you to be clear about what kind of game this is and what kind of experience you should expect.
Despite its theme and concept, It is NOT a racing game, it is not an action game and it is not horror. This is a pure and simple survival game. That means getting ahead requires patience, planning and good luck. It is not enough to drive the car well.
This is a very difficult game where a single mistake can cost hours of work. Although we will never lose the car, we can lose practically all the external improvements we have made to it (doors, body, wheels, headlights and bumpers), as well as tons of resources. Pacific Drive It can offer a very satisfying and exciting experience, but it can also be especially frustrating. That, of course, makes the victories that much sweeter when they come.
In the workshop
Don’t be overwhelmed by the number of options that suddenly open up to you when you finish the tutorial and arrive at the workshop for the first time. If you follow Oppy’s instructions (which are very well translated into Spanish) you will easily understand the main tasks in this area: repair car parts and forge improvements to it.
Now let’s move on to the advice that we want to give you in this guide.
- Whenever you return to the workshop after a mission, the first thing you should do is fill the gas tank and recharge the battery. These are routine tasks, but due to their simplicity they can be easy to forget. We recommend that you get used to doing it before anything else.
- Before repairing any car part or forging a replacement, use the friendly container. It may throw in just the part they need and that will save them resources. If the parts you give them aren’t good, they can at least destroy them for resources.
- Whenever you return to the workshop, review the upgrade tree. Manufacturing Station and see what plans you can create. Some improvements for the workshop such as Powered work table They are necessary to create the best parts of the car. Creating each plane requires a certain level of unstable energy, so calculate well to create what you need most. Power is restored between missions.
- One of the most important improvements you can make to your car is to put all-terrain tires. These will make traveling much easier and are much more resistant to punctures and damage than other types of tires. It is one of the first improvements we recommend making.
- When you are considering changing the external elements of the car for steel bodies, doors and bumpers, consider saving a little more resources and directly upgrading to insulating elements. These consume plasma and a lot more steel plates (and therefore more scrap), but they are worth it. The last missions before moving to the middle zone of the exclusion zone are full of anomalies with electrical effects that can quickly damage the tank. Having insulating parts will save a lot of trouble.
- There are times when It’s better to get rid of a car part and forge a replacement instead of trying to repair it.
- If there is a damaged part of your car that you don’t want to get rid of, but you don’t have the resources to repair it, don’t worry. In the first third of the game you should be able to add the workshop Matter Regenerator. Put the parts you want to fix there and go on a couple of resource gathering trips while they repair themselves.
In the path
- During each trip we are constantly getting in and out of the car. But if you want to keep your vehicle safe, we recommend keeping two things in mind before leaving: Move the gear lever and turn off the car. Even if we are not going to take more than a few seconds, it is good to do this so that the car does not roll away on its own and to save battery.
- The only tools we recommend carrying in your backpack during the first third of the game are the Scrapyard and the crowbarin addition to the flashlight if it’s night. Other tools like the vacuum cleaner and hammer take up too much space and are too situational, so we can keep them in the car unless we are ‘farming’ plasma and light bulbs.
- We will always need good amounts of scrap metal and rubber, so it is a good idea to stop at all the cars stranded on the road and destroy all their parts using the scrap metal or disassembler.
- Anomalies capable of moving like the Destructive Vermin, Happy Hare and the Abductor They are attracted by the light of the headlights and the noise of the engine. When you see something nearby, it is better to turn off the car and headlights. If it is impossible to get an Abductor off the path, they can throw a flare to make it go wherever they want. If you have a LIMpulse Emitter you won’t have to worry about any of that.
- If an anomaly Destructive Vermin If it sticks to the car, it is possible to kick it off, but also consider removing it to the side of the road and destroying it with a junkyard. Most of the time you will only get scrap metal or nothing, but there are chances of getting rare items from them.
- After failing a mission, it is quite tempting to try to return to the place where we “died” to recover the resources we had. If that “death” occurred on the way to the portal or after suffering the effects of an anomaly, it is possible that it was left in an inconvenient place. Sometimes it is better to “let go” of what we had and try to farm it again.
- When selecting the escape portal on a map, make sure you are as close as possible without entering its radius or at least with a direct route to it. Most failures in this game occur during the escape phase.
- Do not touch the mannequins. He who knows, he knows.
- If you find an anomaly on the road and can get within a safe distance to scan it, do so whenever you can. Specific anomalies need to be scanned to unlock some of the most useful upgrades for the car, the workshop, and even the character.
Guide: general tips for playing Pacific Drive
- If they don’t have junk and need it urgently, they can spend a can of food. After using a unit, a piece of scrap metal will be added to your inventory.
- No matter how much you need Repair Caulk at any given time, keep at least two chemicals in inventory in case you need a tire or door sealant.
- When you are in the workshop, manually create two save games taking advantage of the multiple ‘slots’ that the game has. That way they can restart a mission that goes wrong without having to repair any damage to the car.
- When you return from a mission to the workshop, don’t forget to empty your backpack and whatever you have stored in the garage lockers. If necessary, they can even leave things on the floor or use the vacuum cleaner to store things in suitcases.
We hope that this guide of advice and ‘tips’ for beginners of Pacific Drive Help them survive during their first hours in the Olympic exclusion zone.
