At the beginning of July we reported bad news for players of one of the most popular battle royale titles of recent years. Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment announced that they were going to make several changes to the battle pass of Apex LegendsThe biggest one is that there were going to be two passes per month and that they would no longer be able to be purchased with the coins earned in the previous pass.
The fact that we only have to buy one pass and that in this one we can earn enough coins to buy the next one and so on is what has made this form of monetization so popular in titles such as Fortnite and this one. The players were not happy with this news. Not only would they have to spend real money to acquire each new pass, but there would be more of them.. A boycott campaign and negative reviews on Steam immediately began against the game, with its recent reviews falling into the ‘Extremely Negative’ camp.
This tactic seems to have worked. By a post made on the game’s social mediaEA and Respawn announced that they will no longer charge real money for battle passes. Apex Legends and will continue to be acquired with game coins.
The statement reads as follows:
«With the launch of Season 22, we will be restoring the ability to purchase the Premium Battle Pass for 950 Apex Coins. We acknowledge that we could have handled the changes to the Battle Pass better. That’s our fault.»
As compensation, the first August pass can be unlocked by completing in-game challenges. Starting with the September pass, we will be able to buy them again with the 950 Apex Coins earned in the previous pass, as has been the case until now.
Although they will undo the changes to the price of the battle passes Apex Legends, sin They will go ahead with the idea of dividing them in twoThe Ultimate and Ultimate+ versions of the passes —which include extra items and access to all characters— will cost real money: $9.99 and $19.99 respectively. That’s approximately 40,000 and 82,000 Colombian pesos.
We’ve seen a lot of video game companies lately, including EA, raising the price of their games and services while laying off hundreds of people. Many gamers are interpreting this as acts of greed that they will no longer tolerate. We’re glad that in this case they’ve managed to make their presence felt and bring about a change that was going to negatively affect us.
