Square Enix and developer Artdink Corporation released new information and images of Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remakewhich features groups, vocations, and monster arenas. The franchise created by Yuji Horii joins the style introduced by Acquire in Octopath Traveler (2018). Artdink had already experimented with the same when working on Triangle Strategy (2022).
Form a group
In Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D RemakeIn , players can form a party of up to four characters, including the protagonist, by visiting Patty’s party planning spot at the start of their adventure. Simply speak to Patty and you’ll be able to add any adventurers registered with her to your party. If you’ve registered any adventurers yourself, you’ll also be able to recruit them to join your ranks here.
This remake also features a new feature that allows you to register party members to volunteer. Volunteers can help parties in other adventure logs (save files) that are linked to the same account.
How Personalities Affect Character Growth
Each member of your party has their own personality, and this will change how quickly certain attributes increase when they level up. If you don’t like a personality, you can always change it with a book or accessory later on. The protagonist’s personality is decided at the start of the game, and their companions’ personalities are set when they register.
Helping hands
This remake allows players to share party members between adventure logs attached to the same account. If you are interested, speak to Patty and select the “Helping Hands” option. This will allow you to sign up volunteers to help parties on other adventure logs. You can then add up to one volunteer, with the attributes, level, and equipment they had when they signed up, to your party on another adventure log. You can create up to nine adventure logs on a single account, and sign up a maximum of one volunteer on each adventure log.
Know your vocations
Every member of your party has a vocation, including the protagonist, and these determine what spells and skills they are able to learn, how their attributes will increase, and what equipment they can use. Try out all kinds of vocations to see which combination suits you best. Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake It also includes a brand new vocation: the Monster Tamer. They know more about monsters than most and will help you befriend any creatures that seem lonely. There are ten different vocations, including the Hero vocation, which is exclusive to the protagonist.
Monster Wrangler
Allies with this unconventional vocation fight with a variety of monstrous abilities. Not only can they learn attacks that deal damage to multiple enemies at once, but they are also capable of using abilities that heal their companions. Hit multiple enemies at once with some pretty big rocks. War Cry is an ability of the Monster Wrangler that allows you to stun enemies, causing them to lose their next turn.
Hero
Only the protagonist can possess this vocation. He will learn specific sword skills, Zap family spells, healing magic, and even enchantments that revive fallen allies. This versatility allows heroes to switch between attack and defense at any time. Kazap is a fearsome spell exclusive to heroes that rains down powerful lightning bolts upon the enemy.
Warrior
Excellent damage dealers that can be armed with all sorts of powerful equipment. Their high HP allows them to protect their teammates during fights as well, making them mainstays in most groups. The Sword Dance skill unleashes a series of slashes that will damage even the toughest of enemies.
Martial artist
Formidable fighters who are not only strong, but also fast. They prefer to fight with their fists or claws and deal many critical hits in battle. The Multi-Fist skill allows martial artists to strike their enemies with four punches in a row.
Magician
Capable casters who boast great wisdom and an equally abundant amount of MP. Not only can they fend off enemies with a wealth of offensive spells, but they can also support their allies with enchantments such as Kabuff and Oomph. Kafrizz is a spell that incinerates an enemy with a massive fireball. Mages can cast a wealth of elemental spells.
Priest/Priestess
A useful healer who can restore allies’ HP and cure them of any nasty status ailments, such as poison or paralysis. He can even resurrect fallen teammates. Priests can use Multiheal whenever they need to help the entire party recover much-needed HP.
merchant
They are money makers who are experts at collecting gold coins and appraising items. Their unique skill set will come in handy both in battles and while you’re exploring the world. Occasionally, they’ll even pick up a few extra gold coins after battle. Use their digging skill while you’re out and about and you might find some gold coins or an item. If you’re lucky, they might even find a very rare item.
Gadabout
Party animals that heal and support their allies with a variety of skills in battle. Beware, though: they are prone to acting on their own, but this can sometimes have unexpected positive results. Although they sometimes ignore orders, their antics can benefit the group in unexpected ways.
Thief/Thief
Experts at sneaking past enemies and finding treasure in the darkest dungeons, Thieves have a variety of spells and abilities that aid the party during exploration, and can also unleash attacks that inflict status ailments. After battle, they can also surprise you by stealing something from a defeated enemy. The Treasure-Seeking Nose ability allows Thieves to figure out how many glowing spots are nearby on the world map, and how many treasure chests are nearby in towns and dungeons.
Change your vocation to improve your group
At the end of your adventure, you’ll arrive at Alltrades Abbey, where you can give any character above level 20, except the protagonist, a new vocation of your choice. Party members will return to level 1 after the vocation change, but they’ll retain all the spells and skills they had in their arsenal. In short, the more vocations a character chooses, the more things they can do. People come to Alltrades Abbey from all over hoping to change vocations and try new ones.
Special vocation: Wise man/woman
Only those who have undergone intense training and have achieved true enlightenment are ready to take on the vocation of a sage. They are renowned for their abundant MP and can use specific spells from both the priest and mage. Characters can only become sages if they meet certain conditions. Constantly change vocations and make your party as powerful as possible. No one starts out as a sage and the path to becoming one is shrouded in mystery…
Monster Arenas: Where Friendly Creatures Battle (Remake Exclusive)
The world is home to several Monster Arenas, where friendly creatures you rescue on your travels can test their might in combat. Keep your eyes peeled for kinder-natured monsters as you explore towns, dungeons, and other areas. If you manage to win a Monster Arena tournament, you’ll earn some special prizes. Any monsters you rescue will head to see Monty, the Monster Monitor, at a nearby Monster Arena.
Some of the cities in the world have their own monster arenas, where you can participate in different tournaments. Each tournament has its own rank, and you can participate in one as long as you pay the entry fee and have enough monsters to form a team. Teams are made up of a maximum of three monsters, and you can set your monsters’ tactics during battles. You’ll earn money for every battle you succeed in. You’ll also receive gold coins and additional prizes if it’s your first time winning a tournament.
Explore all the secret places
There are some hidden areas in the world that you won’t find on your map. They are usually marked by a striking tree or some rocks. If you enter one of these places, you might find some items, gold coins, or even a friendly monster. Make sure to look for these areas on your adventure, you won’t regret it.
