We are already halfway through the year and as usual it is time to tell you how the new edition of the official Formula 1 video game is going, EA Sports F1 24. This year, Codemasters has revamped the game’s Career mode. This is a feature that has been criticized for its lack of innovation in the last two installments. So in our review of EA Sports F1 24 We will analyze the new features that have been incorporated this year into the official Formula 1 game.
Career mode EA Sports F1 24 It is without a doubt the biggest novelty of this installment. Since, in it, players can choose from a wide range of real F1 or F2 drivers, instead of the avatar we create. It should be noted that each of the drivers on the professional circuit have their own statistics and skills. Additionally, in career mode players attend secret meetings with other teams, set performance goals and develop rivalries with other drivers. This new approach to the career mode of the official Formula 1 game gives the player a better sense of immersion. Since, we can assume the role of an experienced champion like Max Verstappen, take control of rookie drivers like Mick Schumacher or race on the circuits embodying legends like the Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya.
A “new” career mode
In this new career mode EA Sports F1 24, Codemasters has included objectives in the race. This gives an extra addition to EA Sports F1 24 when it comes to wanting to get out of the “monotony” of online competition. Overtaking another driver in a certain number of laps, beating a lap time or using a certain amount of fuel are some of these objectives, which do not exceed more than two per race.
Another of the novelties of EA Sports F1 24, are the usual adjustments that Codemasters makes to the engine and physics of the game. On this occasion, the changes made in this aspect seek to deepen the physics of the tires. Now, players will need to adjust their tires for the changes they will have under different conditions such as wear, temperature and pressure. As a result, precision when attacking a corner has increased. Added to this, in EA Sports F1 24, rain and wind now have a greater impact on the handling of the car. These changes, although they are made to improve realism – especially when using peripherals – do not seem to be fully adjusted for traditional controls.
At a graphic level, EA Sports F1 24 It has received improvements—almost imperceptible to a casual player—along with an update and improvement in the sound section. Now, the game includes our driver talking to the pits and — according to Codemasters — the sound of the engines has also been updated. This year, for our review of EA Sports F1 24, we use the Xbox Series version and we have been surprised by the performance of the game on the console. Especially on the Xbox Series S, which has had no problem running the game fluently without dropping frames in areas with a heavy environmental load.
Is an annual Formula 1 game necessary?
The last two installments of EA Sports F1 They have not received a major renovation. For example, other aspects of the game such as the online modes – with all their connection problems – and F1 World remain practically intact if we compare them with the 2022 and 2023 games. Additionally, the alleged improvements in the intelligence of the drivers controlled by the game are not at all significant.
This leads us to think about whether an annual Formula 1 game is necessary. Since, with these “updates” it could easily be a DLC. The year 2025, EA Sports F1 will have the return of Braking Point and they will remove the current career mode. Or perhaps Codemasters will include both single-player modes. The truth is that we hope that among the changes that come to the game in 2025 there will be improvements in the multiplayer, which is an aspect that remains one of the weakest in the latest installments of the franchise.
