Season 3 Episode 5 of Fortnite has been quite controversial for its focus on car combat, but it became even more so when Epic Games decided to include Tesla’s Cybertruck in the gameThat car is not only considered terribly ugly, but also unsafe and the CEO of the company that created it is one of the most disliked people around today.
Although this car is free at the moment — it can be acquired by completing missions in the game — Players have started a campaign to ally with their rivals when they see another player driving one of these aberrations. It turns out that it’s not just gamers who are upset about the situation. There are people at Epic Games who are not happy with their superiors’ decision regarding this particular item.
Various developers working on Fortnite commented on Twitter about the inclusion of Tesla’s Cybertruck. One of them was artist Toby Sperring, who made the user interface for this collaboration. He said that “While he is proud of the work he and his team did, it is disappointing that they chose to collaborate with that product and company.”.
One of the game’s producers, Robby Williams, posted a message saying simply “destroy it on sight”but also reminded his followers that “their opinions are theirs and theirs alone.”
We also heard from Kyle Wynn, producer of the mode Fortnite Festival. In his message he said that «Voting with your wallet works and the feelings expressed on social media are a tangible factor, companies are made up of people with diverse opinions, that the cybertruck looks stupid and that the CEO of that company is a 💩«.
We don’t know why Epic Games’ top brass decided to partner with a company with such a disgraced CEO, but it’s satisfying to see that many of its members were opposed to such an unpopular move as including Tesla’s Cybertruck in Fortnite.
