Unexpectedly Bandai Namco confirmed on the same day as his E3 2021 presentation that he was going to allocate his space to a single game: House of Ashes. The presentation ended by explaining some details of this horror game and drawing attention once again to the franchise of The Dark Pictures Anthology.
From the Summer Game Fest 2021 if you know that House of Ashes It will be released on October 22 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X / S, Xbox One and PC. Since it has aroused curiosity, in this note we will explain everything that is known about the franchise of The Dark Pictures Anthology.
What is it The Dark Pictures Anthology?
The Dark Pictures Anthology is a series of horror games developed by Supermassive Games (known for Until Dawn) and distributed by Bandai Namco. For now it is a trilogy whose first title was Man of Medan, released in 2019. Since then, one game in this series has been released per year. Nevertheless, the developers plan is to complete the anthology with eight releases in total.
These games are characterized by focusing on stories in which players will all the time be forced to make morally debatable decisions to save themselves or other characters. Every decision impacts the story at some point and sometimes there is no time to consider “an ideal option.” (even if there isn’t). In addition, its strict automatic save system prevents players from returning to change decisions they did not like unless they start their games from scratch again.
The stories of the games are not related to each other, so they can be started in any order and without having tried the others.
What games make up The Dark Pictures Anthology?
For now, there are only three games belonging to The Dark Pictures Anthology:
The Dark Pictures: House of Ashes
The story of House of Ashes It is located in 2003, in the middle of the Iraq War. In this context, The player follows in the footsteps of a US operative searching for a suspected underground chemical weapons facility in the Zagros Mountains. From one moment to the next, a fight breaks out against Iraqi troops, but an earthquake knocks them all down to an Akkadian temple from more than 2,000 years ago. Here the soldiers are attacked by monsters related to the ancient empire and the self-proclaimed god, King Naram-sin.
According to the creators, players will be able to experience 60 different types of deaths and will face numerous moments of tension. This title will be released on October 22, 2021.
