Collectibles, Details, NFTs

During September’s State of Play special presentationSony revealed new details about PlayStation Stars and digital collectibles, but many viewers were left confused about it and even fear that it is NFT.

We had already talked about this program beforebut let’s dig a little deeper into this topic.

What is PlayStation Stars?

Is about a loyalty program that we can join completely free if we play on PS4 or PS5. PlayStation Stars members will be able to complete certain tasks and activities to earn points that can be redeemed for rewards including digital collectibles. These will also be given out to commemorate events.

PlayStation Stars digital collectibles will be related to Sony’s history in the world of video games. They seem inspired by the ‘artifacts’ that we could find in the fun Astro’s Playroom for PS5.

Collectibles can be displayed through the PlayStation App for mobile phones or in the PSN profile. Each one will have a level of rarity.

Are PlayStation Stars digital collectibles NFTs?

When this program was first discussed in the middle of the year, Grace Chen, PlayStation’s vice president of marketing, made it clear to The Washington Post what PlayStation Stars digital collectibles are definitely NOT NFTs. These cannot be sold, cannot be traded and do NOT use ‘blockchain’ technology.

For you to understand better, they will be a kind of trophies or achievements, but more colorful.

When will this program start?

PlayStation users in certain regions of Asia will be able to start using it later in September, but they haven’t said yet when it will roll out to the rest of the world.

One of the first campaigns of this program will be called Hit Play/1994. In it, members who start the correct game after listening to certain music tracks can earn points.
