The developer of PalworldPocketpair, announced a major update for the game that will arrive in December, as well as a 'crossover' with Terraria. Pocketpair claimed that the December update adds the “biggest, toughest and most mysterious” island yet in Palworld. This new island is approximately six times larger than Sakurajima, which reached Palworld in June.
Meanwhile, Pocketpair announced a surprise crossover with the indie smash hit Terraria. There are no details yet, but the illustrations show the characters from both games shaking hands. This content will arrive on an undefined date in 2025.
This all comes as Pocketpair works to defend itself against a high-profile patent lawsuit filed by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company. After the big launch of Palworld Earlier this year on PC and Xbox, comparisons were made between Pals and Pokémon. Some accused Pocketpair of indiscriminately copying the designs of Pokémon. Instead of filing a copyright infringement lawsuit, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have opted for the patent route. They are asking for a relatively small sum and a court order against Palworld that would block its launch.
Earlier this month, Pocketpair confirmed the three Japan-based patents, which revolve around catching Pokémon in a virtual field, for which it is being sued. Palworld includes a mechanic that involves throwing a sphere-shaped object – called a Pal Sphere – at monsters in a field to capture them, similar to the mechanic seen in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. One of the three patents in question deals with Pokémon mounts, since Palworld It also allows players the same with the Pals.
