News of games crashing is sadly becoming more common, but few cases prove as outright unpopular as this one. Studio Wildcard recently announced an improved version of their popular game Ark: Survival Evolved for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC with the label Survival Ascendedbut not only will we have to pay for this new version, but the previous one will stop working and its servers will be shut down.
This news came along with a report that did not surprise us at all. The announced sequel Ark 2starring Vin Diesel, has been postponed and will not arrive until 2024. You can see the trailer with which it was announced at The Game Awards 2020 below.
Needless to say, the members of the gaming community are not happy about this news.
Ark: Survival Ascendedthe improved version of Survival Evolved
According to Studio Wildcard, this improved version of Ark for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC will be completely rebuilt on the Unreal Engine 5 graphics engine. The strange thing is that —according to the official statement— the only way to get this version for PC and Xbox will be to buy a bundle that includes it along with the pre-order of Ark 2 for $49.99 dollars, while on PS5 it will not bring the sequel and will cost $10 less. As if that were not enough, they have already started announcing DLC that will cost $20 each.
This improved version will go on sale at the end of August 2023.
What will happen to the old version of Ark: Survival Evolved para PS4, Xbox One y PC?
According to the statement, the old version of the game will stop working at the same time as the release of the new one because the servers for the platforms of the last generation would be shut down.
All is not lost because the data of the official servers will be published so that players can manage their own servers. The game can also continue to be enjoyed in single player mode.
This has not prevented fair criticism from the community. Obviously, the comments on the post are full of criticism of Wildcard, just like responses to tweets from the official account.
Some have dared to suggest that this is an April Fool’s prank, but everything indicates that it is legitimate.
