On June 27, 1972, one of the most important consoles in the video game industry was born. To celebrate, the company plans to launch Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebrationa massive collection of up to 90 games across systems like the Atari 2600, 5200, 7800, ST, Jaguar and the Lynx handheld.
This is the first time Jaguar and Lynx games will be available to play on modern consoles. At the moment we do not know which games will be included in the Atari anniversary compilation nor their release date. In addition to the classic favorites, we will see six new titles inspired by past glories.
Among these we will find Swordquest: AirWorld; Haunted Houses (now with 3D voxels); VCTR-SCTR (and mashup of Asteroids, Tempest and others); Neo Breakout (as Breakout y Pong but modernized); Quadratank (the new Tank competitive) and Yars’ Revenge Reimagined, the Howard Scott Warshaw classic with the possibility of modern or original graphics. Designed by Mike Mika of Digital Eclipse, who created the Game Boy Color version in 1999.
Digital Eclipse is the studio in charge of Atari emulation. The company is recognized for its excellent work on titles such as Mega Man Legacy Collection, SNK 40th Anniversary Collection y Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection.
As expected, the games of Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration will include a number of modern improvements and filters. These are complemented by extras such as up to 60 minutes of interviews with Atari developers and industry personalities, historical footage, and exclusive galleries.
