SNK has finally revealed who makes up the next trio of characters to arrive in its popular fighting game. Thanks to a new trailer we find out when the new DLC team of The King of Fighters XV in Team Pass 2, it is the ‘Awakened Orochi Team’ made up of alternate versions of Yashiro, Shermie and Chris that we already know from titles like KOF ’97, ’98 and 2002.
The announcement trailer didn’t reveal gameplay details, but SNK took advantage of the video to announce the arrival of The King of Fighters ’98 Ultimate Match Final Edition a PS4. You can see it at the top of this note.
When does the ‘Awakened Orochi Team’, which is made up of alternate versions of Yashiro, Shermie and Chris come out? KOF XV?
SNK did not reveal a specific release date, but the month: august 2022.
Who are these characters?
Yashiro, Shermie and Chris make up the rock band CYS and were rivals of Iori Yagami’s group. They joined the 1997 tournament to face their musical enemy. However, they discover that they are part of the ‘Hakkesshu’, the heavenly priests of Orochi, and use the tournament as an excuse to revive their god, who lies dormant in Chris’s body. They are defeated by Chizuru, Kyo and Iori.
Verse’s defeat in KOF XIV causes his resurrection and they join the new tournament to find out what is happening. The appearance of this new team confirms that they still retain their powers as Hakesshu despite the fact that Orochi is supposedly still sealed.
How do the ‘Awakened Orochi’ versions of Yashiro, Shermie and Chris fight?
In past games, Orochi Yashiro is a character with strong attacks that mimics Goro Daimon’s style, Shermie gains ranged thunder attacks, and Chris uses fire similar to Kyo. We do not know if these styles are preserved in KOF XV.
