In its long-awaited return, this ‘style’ platform fighting game Smash‘ brings three new characters: the Joker, Agent Smith and one of the most popular slasher killers in horror movies. We already saw Jason Voorhees’ character trailer in Multiversus and is full of details and references that will make fans of the saga films smile. Friday the 13th.

Now we are going to list all the references to make to the horror saga of the hockey mask killer.
- We hear the iconic ‘ki ki ki ma ma ma’ that represents Jason’s appearances in the films.
- The narration and style of the trailer imitates the trailers that horror films had in the 70s and 80s.
- Gizmo refers to Jason as “a weird guy in a mask.” This is a reference to a phrase from Friday the 13th Part 6. In that movie, Lizbeth (Nancy McLoughlin) says “I’ve seen enough horror movies to know that a weird guy in a mask is never friendly.”
- The scene where we see Jason’s mask backlit and splitting in two mimics the introduction of Friday the 13th Part VIIwhat starts exactly the same.
- Jason’s default costume is inspired by his appearance in Freddy vs. Jason. The chains are taken from their appearance in Jason Xbefore its transformation into Uber Jason.
- One of Jason’s special attacks in Multiversus He puts his enemy into a sleeping bag and throws him hard. This is a reference to one of his victims in Friday the 13th Part VII who is killed in the same way.
- Jason has a variant based on Uber Jason, following the example of the character’s transformation in the film Jason X.
- Another of Jason’s moves in Multiversus It is taking a bed and folding it in half to hit a rival on it. This is a reference to another infamous but funny murder we saw in Freddy Vs. Jason.
- The “post-credits scene” from the trailer Multiversus shows Jason doing ‘moonwalk’, that’s not a reference to the movies Friday the 13th but the late singer Michael Jackson, favorite of dancing zombies thanks to his iconic video clip Thriller.
Multiversus will be released for free on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Series X|S and PC. Jason is part of the season 1 battle pass, but everyone who played the beta will get it automatically.
