In mid-September, the PS5 was updated to allow SSD storage expansion. As it is not closed to Sony proprietary units, gamers can choose from various options available on the market. Among them is the Samsung 980 Pro, whose speed adjusts to the requirements of the console. However, it lacked a recommended component: the heatsink. Fortunately, Samsung has solved it.
Those of South Korea have presented a 980 Pro with included heatsink. Therefore, PS5 owners will not have to search through offerings from other manufacturers – which are usually at affordable prices, by the way. Of course, the bad news is that Samsung, for now, does not plan to offer a separate heatsink for those who already own this storage unit. Then, you have to open the wallet again.
According to Samsung, the 980 Pro’s heatsink allows the unit to maintain your speeds despite high temperatures. Remember that this product offers a reading speed of 7,000 MB / s and 5,000 MB / s writing. The PS5, for its part, requires a PCIe 4.0 SSD with a minimum read speed of 5,500 MB / s.
Obviously, the new 980 Pro can also be used on computers. However, motherboards generally have M.2 drive slots with their own heatsink. Samsung’s goal, then, is pretty clear: conquer the potential market of the PS5. The console recently surpassed 10 million units sold and is a golden opportunity for Samsung. It should be mentioned that they are not the only ones with the same purpose. The Seagate FireCuda 530, for example, also has a heatsink and has been on the market since July.
The new Samsung 980 Pro will have a suggested price of $ 249 dollars for the 1TB model, while the 2TB variant shoots up to $ 449 dollars. No, none are cheap. Both will be available from October 29 in the United States. At the moment there is no information about its availability in other countries.
