Atypically, the Blizzcon 2021 (o la Blizzconline), this year’s Blizzard event, kicked off today. Unlike previous editions that were held in November, this one had to run to February due to the coronavirus and be held online so as not to suffer the same fate as Blizzcon 2020. Despite this, Blizzcon 2021 has made interesting announcements such as Diablo II Resurrected, the previews of Overwatch 2, the new World of Warcraft patch and a new Hearthstone expansion.
Here is a summary of what Blizzcon 2021 has brought us in terms of video game announcements:
New Hearthstone Expansion: The Barrens
At Blizzcon 2021 it was shown that Hearthstone will come with several new features. The first one is expansion Forged in The Barrens (Forged in the Barrens). This is new content dedicated to Horde players in World of Warcraft.
Forged in The Barrens brings a new set of 135 cards, and includes the new effect of “Frenzy«. This is an effect that triggers only once after a minion survives an attack the first time. For example, it can activate an area attack after being hit. Additionally, spell cards are now classified into elemental schools: Arcane, Fire, Holy, Nature, Shadow, or Vile.
There will also be a new type of game called Hearthstone Mercenaries. In this game, players recruit mercenaries among which are renowned World of Warcraft characters, as well as others who first appeared in Hearthstone. It is an RPG mode that consists of sending these characters on missions to level up and claim rewards.
Announcements at Blizzcon 2021: Come Back The Lost Vikings with Blizzard Arcade Collection
Blizzard decided to re-release three of the games with which it debuted as a video game developer in the 1990s. It did this in a single package called Blizzard Arcade Collection.
Blizzard Arcade Collection gathers The Lost Vikings (1993), Blackthorne (1994) and Rock n’ Roll Racing (1993) in this compendium that adapts them to current screens with a 16: 9 aspect ratio. Some new details are added, such as the ability to rewind time (in case of an error), save and load games, and add filters.
Blizzard Arcade Collection is available right now on Nintendo Switch, Playstation, Xbox and PC at a base price of $ 20.
Overwatch 2 previews
Blizzard talked about Overwatch 2, although not in the way that many wanted (for example, an official date announcement of the game). However, gathered the team of developers to show what they have advanced about the second part of their shooter.
What was seen included new character designs, new maps, mention of hero-specific missions, focus on story mode, and talent trees for each character.
