NetherRealm Studios just revealed Smoke and Rain as part of the initial cast of characters for Mortal Kombat 1. This revelation has been given during the first “Kombat Kast” through a new trailer, which focuses on telling part of the history of the Lin Kuei clan in Mortal Kombat 1 as we watched as new characters Smoke, Rain, and previously announced clan fighters Sub-Zero and Scorpion battle it out.
What was revealed in the trailer for Mortal Kombat 1 from the Kombat Kass of July 2023?
This new preview of Mortal Kombat 1 focuses on the Lin Kuei clan and throughout it we see new bits of story that show Smoke working alongside Sub-Zero and Scorpion on their mission to protect Earthrealm. On the other hand, Rain faces the Lin Kuei and in the trailer we see him use the classic version of Kung Lao as a Kameo fighter.
In addition to the movements, both Smoke and Rain have had a clear change in their design. Being Rain —despite the fact that Smoke has a human appearance— the one that differs the most from his previous version.
In Mortal Kombat 1, it seems that Rain uses her water-based attacks by summoning it through her staff while manipulating it with her hands to shape her attacks. Rain’s attacks are from a distance and her water projectile moves quickly and eels across the fighting space. Additionally, she has water traps and teleportation.
Smoke, etc Mortal Kombat 1 he fights with a small dagger with which he executes quick blows in battle. Smoke also uses his smoke abilities to manipulate and move his new weapon.
