We may no longer hear as much about soccer as we did in the days of the World Cup, but video games are responsible for keeping us tied to the beautiful game. As an example we have the fans of FIFA 23who in days gone by came together to choose their favorite players and form the perfect team of the year: the ‘Toty’ (‘team of the year’).
According to EA, more than 10 million players voted to choose the top 11 from a pool of more than 100 players. Let’s see the result.

- Karim Benzema (Francia) – Real Madrid
- Kylian Mbappé (France) – Paris Saint-Germain
- Lionel Messi (Argentina) – Paris Saint-Germain
midfielders
- Jude Bellingham (UK) – Borussia Dortmund
- Kevin De Bruyne (Belgium) – Manchester City
- Luka Modrić (Croatia) – Real Madrid
defenders
- Achraf Hakimi (Marruecos) – Paris Saint-Germain
- Éder Militao (Brazil) – Real Madrid
- Theo Hernandez (France) – AC Milan
- Virgil van Dijk (Netherlands) – Liverpool
Goalkeeper
- Thibaut Courtois (Belgica) – Real Madrid
Among all of them, Mbappé had the highest percentage of votes among forwards with 23%. Kevin De Bruyne in midfielders with 21% and Achraf Hakimi for defense with 15%. Thibaut Courtois was chosen as the best goalkeeper by more than half of the voters (56%).
The full TOTY Team of the Year lineup will be available at FIFA 23 from January 26. The players of Fifa Online you will find it a few days before, on January 20, and in FIFA Mobile at the beginning of the following month. Back to FIFA 23, The forward items will be active from January 20-21, midfielders from January 22-23, and defenders and goalkeeper from January 24-25.
The players who were left out of this starting team by few votes were the following:
- Delantero: Erling Haaland (Norway) – Manchester City
- Midfielder: Federico Valverde (Uruguay) – Real Madrid
- Defender: João Cancelo (Portugal) – Manchester City
