While the Square Enix sales of Eidos Interactive and subsidiaries such as Crystal Dynamics It didn’t take the industry by surprise, it left the public with doubts about games based on Marvel properties. The Embracer group is now the owner of important franchises such as Tomb Raider y Deus Ex, but what about the games developed by Crystal Dynamics (Avengers) and Eidos-Montreal (Guardians of the Galaxy) when Disney owns Marvel?
At the recent Embracer presentation, that question was addressed to co-founder and CEO Lars Wingefors. The first confirmation from the senior manager is that all games developed by the studios are included in the transaction
In other words, it depends on Disney’s approval the future of the currently active game of Avengers and of Guardians of the Galaxy.
Should such approval be forthcoming, Wingefors commented.
“I do not expect any notable business deals related to these studies or the transaction to be disallowed by regulatory laws or executive partners. However, it remains to be seen. Obviously I think your question is related to the current two games and whether these will be handled going forward. There is no change in existing plans until today.”
According to analyst David Gibson, Avengers (Crystal Dynamics) y Guardians of the Galaxy (Eidos-Montréal) resulted in losses of $200 million for Square Enix. With Disney’s approval, Embracer will continue to support updates to Avengers
