On May 12, PlayStation fans will finally get Star Wars Episode I: Racer when it launches PlayStation 4.
Episode I: The Racer was an intergalactic kart racer that combines the various races that start up a Star Wars museum and a refreshingly updated system that lets you upgrade and customize your race style stats. You were able to choose your destiny; Racing in mud pits and ice pipes, it is entirely possible to fall into a fire hazard.
Of course, we wanted to capture the original feel, but delivering one and only one of these classic designs wasn't enough for Aspyr. Our teams wanted to bring a direct experience to life, combining the best of every kind of game into an experience worth the 20-year wait.
Here's a sample of what you can expect from Star Wars Episode I: Racer on PS4:
- We stopped all FMV sequences in this game. Output decisions have changed dramatically over the last 20 years, as have file size restrictions. This has allowed us to re-sell everything naturally to increasingly sophisticated decisions that will look even better than your 4K TV. Despite the age of the original models, these cutscenes look amazing and will take you back to seeing the track on Tatooine for the first time in 1999.
- We've re-marked all the details so you feel ready for DualShock 4. This may sound trivial, but feeling like pulling a Podracer is particularly touching. Controls that captured the Podracing excitement in 1999 not only feel natural in today's controller, but our team was committed to making the ultimate Podracing experience. You can expect natural and modern controls.
- Trophy hunters will be happy to hear that we have added Trophies. And you will be able to prove that you are the last Podracing winner with the Platinum brand!
If you are new to Star Wars Episode I: Racer, the only thing you need to know is speed. The game is about speed and fans of Star Wars: Reacer Revenge will be happy to see that it was made for the first time with a promise of over 600 MPH. Race runners will walk around the intersection, find shortcuts and break records, while kart race fans turn on explosions, beats, or use Sebulba firefighters secretly to chase opponents out of the race.
Please acknowledge the huge thanks from the teams here at Aspyr for all your support! It's great to be able to recreate our favorite games, and look forward to watching the hopall hop in :]
