Vampires, robots, fighters, oh my! Capcom Fighting Collection brings together 10 head-to-head arcade classics on PlayStation with added features and online play for all games with restore netcode!
With Capcom Fighting Collection, we aim to give you new ways to experience some of our beloved fighting games. For some of you, this might be your first chance to play titles like Red Earth or Cyberbots: Fullmetal Madness. Others will take pride in dominating the online leaderboards of the classic Hyper Street Fighter II or even the lighter Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix and Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo.
That’s five out of 10 games so far… so what are the other five? Dark Stalkers! That’s right, this will be our most comprehensive Darkstalkers compilation yet, featuring two previously Japan-exclusive titles.
Ready to relive Darkstalkers history? If you’re a longtime f an, let’s take a quick trip down memory lane and reminisce about what gave this series its classic status. And if you’re new to Darkstalkers, let me give you a taste of what makes this magical fighting game series so special.
The world of Darkstalkers
While Street Fighter is a bit closer to home, the Darkstalkers series invites you to explore much darker themes. Your adventures will center around impending doom, ranging from protecting Earth from a feisty alien to confronting a demon lord in a conjured dimension.
These extravagant scenarios are accompanied by a variety of eye-catching backdrops. Once you will fight in a dark alley in England while the next battle could take place in a vast Egyptian desert. And of course, the epic showdown against the aforementioned demon lord will take place in his own demon realm.
Darkstalkers characters
At this point, it should come as no surprise that the cast of Darkstalkers comes in all sorts of shapes, sizes, and species. You might even have seen the succubus Morrigan Aensland and the vampire Demitri Maximoff make appearances in other Capcom games. In addition to these two, you can expect to face swords with the cursed samurai Bishamon, wrestle with the bigfoot Sasquatch, attach yourself to the mummy Anakaris, and fight/play with a variety of esoteric monster-inspired characters. classics and folklore.
Naturally (or supernaturally), each character has unique powers and abilities. Without going into gameplay details just yet, I recommend taking the time to play with each warrior, if only to marvel at the flashy animations that accompany each special move. Whether it’s the subtle transformations of Donovan Baine’s sword, Rikuo dynamically stretching his skin, or BB Hood using his explosive arsenal with reckless abandon, each animation has been crafted with special care to look stylish and add to the frantic pace of fighting.
Darkstalkers gameplay
Since we’re dialing everything up to 11 anyway, of course the gameplay has to be wild too! Combat in Darkstalkers also kicks things up a notch or two thanks to combo systems and fast character movement options. Some Warriors can dash quickly around the stage, while others have multiple jumps or even the ability to run through the air. This extra mobility combined with wild special moves makes every match as chaotic and frenetic as ever.
And that’s not all ! In later games, the rounds of each match are handled in such a way that everything feels fast-paced and high-stakes. Instead of resetting warriors’ position and health bar to their original state, the match almost never ends. As soon as Round 1 is complete, the downed fighter will rise to their feet where they fell, with a full health bar and ready to topple over. The winner of the previous round won’t regenerate health, though… which can add a lot of pressure to both fighters.
Two Darkstalkers Debut Outside Japan
A piece of Darkstalkers history that was previously exclusive to Japan is finally making its way to the rest of the world with Capcom Fighting Collection. The three original Darkstalkers games are now joined by two arcade variants making their western debut (in their original Japanese versions). Here’s what the collection looks like now:
- Darkstalkers: warriors of the night
- Night Warriors: Revenge of Darkness
- Vampire Savior: Lord of the Vampires
- Vampire Hunter 2: Revenge of the Darkstalkers
- Vampire Savior 2: Lord of the Vampires
The last two games, Vampire Hunter 2 and Vampire Savior 2, are both derived from Vampire Savior. They all share the same frenetic round system explained above, but with slightly different lists. Give them a try if you want to mix things up!
We’re excited to bring these arcade classics to western gamers. All 10 games will have online play powered by robust restore netcode. Plus, we’ve also added a practice mode to almost every game – except Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo – and a huge collection of art and music to explore!
Capcom Fighting Collection will be available on PS4 for $39.99 on June 24. A digital bundle featuring Capcom Fighting Collection and Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection will also be available at launch for $59.99.
