Analgesic Productions has announced via press release (via: Gematsu) which will release Anodyne 2: Return to Dust on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X / S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch next month. The game was released in 2010 on PC to rave reviews and will now make the leap to other platforms to expand the studio’s name.
The game is the fourth creation of the studio made up of just two people, the composer Melos Han-Tani and the artist Marina Kittaka. The first title was also called Anodyne, but its creators claim that the new one is not a direct sequel and that those who did not play the first will be able to enjoy the second.
Del 3D al 2D
The main asset of the title is that it has phases in 3D and others in 2D and both are inspired by graphics from another era. The 2D graphics are from the 16 bit era and will recall the Zelda games of the Super Nintendo and Game Boy, while the 3D graphics will recall the era of Nintendo 64 and the first PlayStation.
The premise is simple, we play a hero who cleans the microscopic dust that has contaminated the inhabitants of New Theland. This dust is capable of affecting the emotions of the characters, so Nova, our protagonist will have to remove the dirt that we cannot see with our directly.
The 3D phases will be those of the exploration of your world, while the 2D ones are those that we face enemies (the dust). The combat phases will also be quite reminiscent of the classic titles with simple and intuitive character control. The game received good reviews when it launched in 2019, although content was also noted to be missing.
