We at Team Ninja are incredibly excited to bring you our newest action RPG game that takes you on an epic, unfettered journey as Ronin at the dawn of a new era in Japan. Seven years ago, we started this project. And since then, development has progressed slowly and freely, much like the mind of a Ronin. It is with great pleasure that we finally bring this title to light, and we are filled with gratitude to have been able to make this announcement with PlayStation who have supported us and this project throughout these many years.
Rise of the Ronin is a combat-focused open-world action RPG set in Japan during a time of great change. This is the very end of a 300-year-long Edo period, commonly referred to as “Bakumatsu”. Set in the late 19th century, Japan faces darker times as it battles its oppressive rulers and deadly diseases while Western influence permeates as civil war continues to rage between the Tokugawa shogunate and anti-shogunate factions.
Here, in this time of chaos, you play as a Ronin character, a warrior bound to no master and free to make his own choices. Rise of the Ronin is a new Team Ninja experience that will immerse you in a historically inspired world while br inging together his renowned fighting action with Katanas and more, with new guns that portray the unique personality of his era.
We at Koei Tecmo have had many titles in the past that were story based. But with Rise of the Ronin, we set out to take the next big step. Using all the skills and knowledge we have acquired over the years, we really wanted to take things to the next level by attempting to describe in detail the most critical revolution in Japanese history, including the most critical chapters. darker and uglier than many will hesitate. . This is undoubtedly the most ambitious and challenging project for Team Ninja Studio to date. Still, we’ll let our experience in making samurai and ninja action games guide us on this journey.
Beyond the action elements, we will be unwavering in our efforts to craft a multi-layered story that showcases the world of the Bakumatsu period and the revolution that took place. The characters you’ll meet all have their own brand of justice and motivations, and whether you’ve decided to side with them or against them…every decision you make will matter. With new combat actions and unrestrained open gameplay, we can’t wait to set you free as you immerse yourself as Ronin.
