Over the years, the world of video games has shown us that it harbors great surprises and hidden secrets. After all, there are plenty of video games based on great works that we haven’t known about in years or even real mushrooms that have been able to bring enough inspiration to shape the story of a powerful video game.
But what the last few years have shown us the most is that companies are working hard to develop their ideas, even planning different collaborations to achieve something even more surprising. We knew that Nintendo’s attempted collaboration with Sony gave way to a Nintendo PlayStation that it didn’t go as planned, limiting itself to a functional model that, of course, became a coveted collector’s item.
A collaboration that has brought great secrets to the brand
But you might not know that SEGA was also close to working with Sony in its day. In fact, it was the second company, after Nintendo, who negotiated with Sony. While the idea was to work together to come up with a console that could beat the Nintendo console, SEGA quickly discovered their mistake.
A hoax that led PlayStation to become a successful console
Although the full story is not known, one of SEGA’s employees, Tom Kalinske, has confirmed that the specifications of the console that SEGA had come to offer to create, they were used for the successful Sony console. PlayStation had some of the specs that SEGA and Nintendo came up with for their collaboration, resulting in a console that, no doubt, had great power.
This information may already seem surprising, but know that there was still a point. The employee explains that the technical achievements of the SEGA Virtua Fighter caused Sony to focus its attention solely on 3D. And it certainly showed that this second company that tried to collaborate with Sony sealed its fate.
