It is no secret to anyone that the coronavirus raised some industries while others remain barely standing such as cinemas, restaurants, bars and concerts, something that is equally palpable for small and large companies.
As an example of this, we have the Studio Ghibli museum located in Mitaka, Tokyo, which after the closure of its doors due to the 2020 pandemic and despite the controlled reopening in 2021, was in danger of closure.
The good news is that thanks to anime fans in Japan, the museum is still standing, after raising the equivalent of $ 90,000 US dollars in less than 24 hours, which will help with the museum’s maintenance costs.
As an added incentive, those who contributed to the Ghibli museum fundraiser were given a tax discount by the government equal to the donation made.
One step to the future
With the pandemic still present in the capital and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games still underway, Japan’s big companies have nothing left but to take a leap of faith, especially if they want to recover from losses.
For this, the Ghibli Museum began to receive visitors in early 2021, with a protocol in which only Mitaka residents could attend by family groups and at different times than other visitors.
Although this mechanic was seen to be viable and even the museum planned to extend the coverage area for guests, states of emergency declared throughout the year and coronavirus outbreaks hampered progress.
Although we cannot be there at this moment, the Studio Ghibli museum must be preserved as part of the history of Japan that has touched the entire West, so its fans will surely always be there to support it.
