Supermassive Games has published a new video for The Dark Pictures: House of Ashes in which we can finally see gameplay of the title, which they promised. the video lasts about 25 minutes, eight of gameplay and the rest is the director of the game, Will Doyle. The developer explained what the game is about, inspirations for the story, and other interesting details.
For example, pre-ordering the game will guarantee you Curator’s Cut mode that allows you to see the perspective of characters other than those in the standard story called Theatrical Cut. This content will be available only to those who pre-purchase and Supermassive did not make it clear if we will be able to acquire it later in another way.
Third installment of the saga
The director also confirmed that the versions of PS5 and Xbox Series X / S will be real, that is, they will not work through backward compatibility but that the version will be independent and will look much better than the previous generation. Finally, he explained that the monsters in this story are real and that there was a lot of inspiration in movies like Alien. However, the main source of inspiration is In the Mountains of Madness by HP Lovecraft.
The gameplay was then introduced with a brief introduction to the situation. A group of soldiers from the army and the CIA traveled to Iraq in 2003 to locate a supposed hideout of terrorists with high-powered weapons, their mission is to destroy the enemies and neutralize the weapons. In the middle of the shooting there is an earthquake that causes several characters to fall into ruins underground and here begins hell.
The gameplay of the Theatrical Cut is with Nick, Sergeant, while the Curator’s Cut is with Jason, his superior. The former sees a monster and can choose between communicating how they feel or letting it be. Shortly after, they find a wounded comrade along with another ally who disappears in the dark. Just when the good stuff starts, the video clip ends.
The Dark Pictures: House of Ashes se lanzará en PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S y PC en 2021.
