Shadow Labyrinth is the next 2D 2D action platform of our Bandai Namco studios team where players will control Swordsman n ° 8, summoned on a mysterious planet by the enigmatic puck to finish a mission where others have failed. The two will discover secrets and fight huge bosses in their struggle to survive. The concept of a dark Pac-Man game is a new bold field for the brand, offering a unique experience in which existing and new CAP players will be delighted to dig. Shadow Labyrinth emerges from the dark on July 18.
The players may have noticed that Puck looks a bit like Pac-Man, and there is the amazing visual of enormous anxiety and a dark Pac-Man that collapses on the body of a laid enemy. But the inspiration of Shadow Labyrinth by Pac-Man is more than deep of the skin, our team worked to build from scratch with a careful consideration of what it means to be a PAC-Man game.
The emblematic labyrinth is the second behind Pac-Man itself when you consider the main factors of a PAC game. We wanted to apply this principle to our game where the characters are just as important as the place where we find them. The labyrinth of the PAC-Man arch is immersive, and we wanted to give life to a larger scale. The map of this mysterious planet when it is seen zoom out is itself a solid labyrinth, and like the original Pac-man, you must familiarize yourself with the labyrinth to better your enemies. The labyrinth of the original arch game was put on a background of darkness, Shadow Labyrinth goes further by taking place our history in the depths of space on a dark and mysterious planet where survival means more difficult challenges at deeper levels. You reach the end or are consumed by trying.
When you approach an arcade machine Pac-Man, you are greeted by a joystick, then we thought, controlling Pac-Man is quite simple, right? It's just a joystick. But as you progress at each level, the action on the dodging of the ghosts becomes intense. Shadow Labyrinth gives players a variety of actions and weapons to use, but we wanted the player's entries to feel natural, and not overwhelming – like this simple joystick. We also wanted to give the player as many choices as possible, which allows him to choose the direction he would like to explore first. Like Pac-Man Original Arcade, action in Shadow Labyrinth becomes seriously intense and we have estimated that an accessible control scheme and flexibility to explore the instructions they curious would help to deepen the immersion of players similar to the original arcade game.
There are actually 3 game modes in Shadow Labyrinth. Control of Swordsman n ° 8 is a question of use of weapons and clever dodges, and the mini PUCK mode is to explore hidden and out of reach trails. These in themselves feel very pac-man, but on the 3rdRD The game mode is indeed the version of Shadow Labyrinth by A Power Pellet: Gaia, the robotic giant with a devastating force. Using Gaia, players can damage enemies that could have been too strong, break the barriers (a reference to the Arcade Super Pac-Man game) and eat enemies. But just like a cheek of power, this power is not infinite and must be used strategically to, as Pac-Man fans say, “turn the tables” on your enemies.
PAC-Man always eats points, power dumplings and ghosts to go up and continue. We wanted to develop the basic concept of consumption in Shadow Labyrinth to include eating to overcome enemies, but also eating as a way to update. In the game, you can choose to eat enemies instead of pouring them until they are defeated.
If you choose to eat them, you will get different resources depending on the enemy you have eaten. These resources can then be used to acquire and upgrade your capacities. Thus, in Shadow Labyrinth too, you must eat to progress, not only to go further, but also to grow from prey to the predator Apex.
But where are the ghosts? We have not forgotten them. In Shadow Labyrinth, among many vile creatures, you must destroy or be haunted by the G-Hôtes: parasitic organizations that have taken up the monsters and machines on the planet to create something new and terrifying. These meetings serve as great battles of boss adapted to the primary antagonists of the original Arcade. You will meet the G-hosts based on Pac-Man ghosts such as Pinky, never revealed so far, while Twisted Boss is fighting.
Shadow Labyrinth is inspired by the legacy of games in the genre as well as construction using PAC-Man DNA. But players in the eyes of Eagle have already started to notice clues that Shadow Labyrinth takes place in the wider chronology of the chronology of the UGSF (United Galaxy Space Force): a shared universe which connects many games on the theme of Bandai Namco on the theme of space. While the players explore the massive card of the world of Shadow Labyrinth, they will meet familiar enemies like those of the Dig Dug series, Bosconian, and more.
Shadow Labyrinth arrives on PlayStation 5 on July 18!
