The Last of Us 2 takes home Game of the Year at the Golden Joystick Awards, along with a record number of other accolades.
As 2020 draws to a close, it seems now is the time to start looking back at the biggest releases of the year, with various posts and award shows beginning to reflect on what the most memorable games were this year. . Geoff Keighley fueled that discussion when he announced the nominees for his annual Game Awards exhibition last week, with artists like Hades, Ghost of Tsushima, Doom Eternal, and more all for some big awards.
However, one of the first in a long line of award shows debuted today, with the Golden Joystick Awards revealing their winners for 2020. Several popular titles had a great night at the ceremony, but it was The Last of Us 2 that who managed to take home the highest honor of being named Best Game of the Year.
Announced via the company’s Twitter feed, the title garnered praise through public votes, and the votes secured a major victory for Naughty Dog’s post-apocalyptic epic. In addition to taking home the grand prize, The Last of Us 2 also managed to secure the best storytelling, the best visual design, the best audio, the PlayStation game of the year and the best studio of the year. There are six awards in total and supposedly a record performance for the ceremony.

Other games that triumphed at the exhibition were Hades, which took home the crown for Best Indie Game and the Critic’s Choice Award, as well as Fall Guys, which took home the Best Family Game and Best Multiplayer Game. Meanwhile, Among Us developers Innersloth took home the Breakthrough Award, Sandra Saad took home best performer for her portrayal of Kamala Kahn in Marvel’s Avengers, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons secured the Game of the Year.
