That MultiVersus routine just got a whole lot harder.
The latest major MultiVersus patch is out now, bringing Rick to the game along with a smorgasbord of buffs and nerfs for various other characters. All good news, unless your main has been nerfed. Also, a bit of bad news if you haven’t leveled up your favorite characters, as doing so takes a lot longer.
As highlighted by VG247, the patch notes for MultiVersus update 1.03 have revealed that the amount of XP you’ll need to level up characters has been greatly increased. In fact, developer Player First has doubled the XP you’ll need to get each fighter from level three to 15, at which point you unlock a character’s mastery track. The team claims that players were reaching level 15 with their favorite characters too quickly.
“We found that players could get to level 15 on the mastery track too quickly. This is to help us make it a bit more of a journey,” explained Player First. While it will be unpopular with dedicated MultiVersus players, those who have been leveling up fast enough will likely not feel the effects as much. It will be the casual players who now have little to no chance of achieving total dominance with either.
That has a potentially negative impact on the game for more casual players. A character’s full selection of perks aren’t available until they hit level 13. That means you’ll be up against experienced players who have those perks available regardless of who they pick, while people who drop in and out probably won’t have that. Presumably there are also plenty of casual gamers to cater to, as MultiVersus quickly reached 20 million players last month.
Morty, Gizmo, and now Rick have been added to the MultiVersus roster since its open beta launched earlier this year. Stripe and Black Adam are yet to come in the first season. Exactly when each of them will arrive is yet to be confirmed, but Black Adam’s arrival will likely coincide with the movie of the same name hitting theaters on October 21.
