The remote villages and their surroundings are home to both people and beasts, and among them lies the invisible: spirits, demons, ancient creatures and many other supernatural beings. Only connoisseurs – wizards and wizards – know how to defeat them or submit them to service.
In Black Book, which will be released tomorrow on PlayStation 4, you play Vasilisa, a peasant girl to whom her grandfather gave an ancient artifact: the Black Book. Along with him, Vasilisa turns to witchcraft in order to break the seals of the Black Book, as it is said that it can grant any wish. There is nothing more she wants than to bring her deceased loved one back from the dead.
As you travel through his homeland, Cherdyn, you will encounter many magical creatures, each a formidable foe that requires a unique approach and zagovors (spell combinations) to defeat …
Leshy
Ancient guardians of the forest, the leshys are said to live for thousands of years and can take any form, animal or human. Leshys jealously guard the forest they claim to be their own. Anyone walking through the leshy forest must ask for permission or face dire consequences. A leshy can cast powerful spells and a connoisseur would do well to prepare with certain herbs against them.
Mermaid
Rusalkas look like mermaids but have legs instead of a fishtail. They are cunning and beautiful, they hunt their prey with ease by hypnotizing and slowly strangling it. Rusalkas can call on his fascinated allies to aid him in battle.
werewolf
Werewolves are humans who have been under a powerful spell for too long to return to their human form. They almost always hunt in packs and prove to be formidable foes, with damage attacks capable of splitting people in half. Make sure you have enough defenses against such an enemy in advance.
A quarter
A parasitic demon that crawls inside and slowly possesses the unsuspecting person, tormenting the victim with convulsions, pain, and involuntary actions. The possessed cannot rest and is often driven out of the community. To defeat an Ikota, the Connoisseur must take care to target the demon as it crawls away from its host, otherwise the victim may perish as well.
Bannitsa
Bannitsa is a common but powerful demon who resides in a banya (or sauna), under the stove. Bannitsa surrounds himself with banniks, scraps of hot coal that fire red embers and otherwise seek to “clean” the intruder of his grease and grime, usually by skinning the living person. The demons who cleanse all the positive and negative effects from you will be difficult to deal with unless you are prepared by knowing it.
Vodyanoi
The Vodyans are ancient water spirits. Like the forest rulers, the Vodyans control the lakes and rivers they claim as their kingdom. Rusalkas, drowners and other creatures or living dead serve the vodyanoi who rule the region. These spirits love to bargain, but you need to know what they are offering because they love to cheat even more.
Eretnik
If a koldun (a wizard) dies before handing over his herd of demons to his successor, they torment his soul and prevent him from leaving this world. When this happens, the corpse becomes a terrible undead creature, full of wickedness and hatred. These undead beings suck the souls of their victims, so it would be wise to prepare to counter this with blessings and other spells.
These mystical creatures and many more that you will encounter on Vasilisa’s journey through Cherdyn, into our realm and beyond. Each enemy has their unique set of abilities that require a thoughtful approach and the right deck of cards. Discover new spells as you play, build the perfect hand for each particular enemy (boss or otherwise), and break the seals of the Black Book to make your sincere wish come true!
Go to Cherdyn and stay safe.
