Video game addiction is a reality, but not that reported by the media
I was going to make a thread in Twitter talk about the video game addiction, but why are we wrong, it has too much potential to tell you through an article (and therefore I do not give the badge to my followers so much). The point is, if you’ve been paying attention to social media this morning, you will have seen that a video from a morning show has gone viral that talks about this topic.
It should be noted that the aforementioned video refers to all the issues that come with it. addiction to video games, which has led to the discomfort of many actors, who have expressed their derogatory opinion of the program and take it personally. However, far from wanting to back up what aired this morning, from a cold standpoint, there is one statement you need to know: video game addiction exists.
This is not something I say at random, because I am basing myself on events that have been of interest in the past, like children who did not go to class, who were glued to the screen during 16 hours a day, which did not make basic necessities, among other cases in which, obviously, there is a problem
Video game addiction even in Candy Crush
By the very definition of the word, the addiction It is the persistent and compulsive addiction to a substance or behavior. Under this premise, the cases I mentioned in the previous paragraph are, without a doubt, addictive. However, this is not something that applies only to video games, but addictions can come from anywhere. For example, someone who compulsively eats yogurt, putting aside needs like sleep, will be addicted to it.
In this sense, we will give an example, changing the yogurt for the candy Crush: If someone devotes themselves to playing this mobile app in exchange for not going to work, neglecting their family, spending all the money on lives, or even not sleeping, is they an addict? The answer is obvious: yes.
Now, making it clear that there is video game addiction, that brings us to another point: why is it so high profile? ¿Why mainstream media don’t talk about gambling addiction when gambling ruins more families? The answer to this is very simple: because it is direct competition. It’s a simple matter of logic: if a person is playing a video game, they are not watching any TV shows or series.
Attacks on video games in general, not addiction
This is precisely why, at the end of the previous paragraph, some programs devote some of their meetings to talking about video game addiction, because the problem is not so much that they talk about the addiction itself in a particular way and with the cases that there are, but that they treat video games in general as a social evil.
It does not happen by chance, but it is conscientiously for the broadcast program. Watch how these programs are often broadcast when kids and teens are in class, since they are not the target audience but those parents who as soon as they see this will shut off any entertainment related to the world. Famous is the relationship with a kid playing League of Legends on Xbox with a PlayStation controller. My parents bring him in, not me.
In addition, this is something that is very supported by the argument we had today, since the expert psychologist they led did not say that it was necessary to have control over the schedule. or whatever, but, I quote verbatim “To all the parents who are listening to us, be very careful that my son is playing a video game
Video games yes, but no bet
Having said all of the above, I will give the last argument on the behavior of television with video games: if there is so much interest in talking about drug addiction, ¿why we don’t talk about sports betting? And be careful, because we are not talking about anything minor, because a simple walk in your city is enough to see that there are more and more of these places. Some even close to schools.
The answer to this is again interest, since these same paris shops they advertise on television, so to say something against them means to lose income. And not just that. Gambling addicts will also watch the matches to see if they are making a profit or not. That way, when done, they could zap, scratching the top rated strings.
In short, the video game addiction It does exist, but the problem is not with that, but with the treatment that many media give by demonizing them in every way possible. Because it’s not just addiction anymore. Yesterday was violence. The day before yesterday, while playing Fortnite with a PS2 controller, the devil entered us. In 2016, the times someone committed suicide for crossing without looking while playing Pokémon GO. It’s almost a matter of time before someone blames them for causing the coronavirus.
