By surprise and after many rumors, Platinum Games presented yesterday the intentions of performing The Wonderful 101: Remastered as the first project of one of the 4 games that the company intends to announce in the coming days. The Wonderful 101: Remastered was not funded by an editor and on this occasion Platinum Games opted for collective funding so that Hideki Kamiya's game could reach more platforms – Switch being the first option.
Platinum Games asked for $ 45,000 to be able to make the port for Switch, but not only managed to finance it in less than 2 hours, currently the collection already exceeds 890,000 dollars. This means that a Steam version and a PS4 version. In addition, if the money raised continues to rise, two more game modes will be offered: Time Attack and Luka´s First Mission, the latter a new 2D adventure. For this, the collection must reach 1 million dollars and 1.5 million dollars respectively.
Users have several levels of options to support the project, including digital copies and physical copies with some additional extras.
Another interesting fact is that Platinum Games has had to reach some kind of undisclosed agreement with Nintendo to be able to launch a Kickstarter from The Wonderful 101: Remastered and launch it on other platforms. At first, Nintendo refused but, according to Hideki Kamiya himself, "by talking with them they allowed us to reach an agreement, so we took care of starting this project."
The famous director also comments that "we felt he did not reach the audience he deserved," talking about sales on Wii U and how that console was a failed platform in terms of units in the players' homes. "As creators, we have a lot of confidence in the game. This project is a unique opportunity for unite fans and see how far the game can go, that's why we went on the crowdfunding route, "says Kamiya.
