Watch out, hunters! Monster Hunter Rise is coming to PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on January 20, 2023. It’s been just over two years since the release of the last Monster Hunter World: Iceborne update, so we’re delighted to welcome PlayStation players to Kamura Village and back to hunting.
Unleash your hunting spirit
Monster Hunter Rise infuses the hunting experience you may know from Monster Hunter World and Iceborne with new acrobatic maneuvers made possible by the endemic life known as Wirebugs. Jump through the air, scale cliffs, and quickly traverse open environments with ease. Wirebugs allow for varied and unique special attacks for each of the game’s 14 weapons. Even if you’ve mastered a certain weapon in the past, these new abilities bring new skills to incorporate into your toolbox.
You’ll meet a whole new type of buddy: the Palamute Canyne. As well as providing support alongside Palico Felyne’s proven companions, you’ll be able to ride on the back of a Palamute to quickly blast your way through each location. Palamute riding is a great way to safely use items or sharpen your weapon when needed. Also be sure to pet your Palamute and show him some love for all his hard work.
So what are we hunting?
Flagship monster Magnamalo leads a mix of new and recurring monsters inspired by Japanese folklore. Known as the Wyvern of Malice, Magnamalo releases a deadly purple gas composed of consumed monsters known as Hellfire, while slashing fiercely with his powerful claws and spear-tipped tail.
Along with new monsters, returning favorites from previous Monster Hunter titles will also test your skills. Many of these monsters feature new moves and abilities from previous games, so even if you’re a seasoned vet who’s killed many Rathalos and Rathians over the years, you’re sure to find a familiar yet fresh experience in Monster Hunter Rise. .
A new threat rises
Monster Hunter Rise puts you in the shoes of a fully customizable rookie hunter at the start of their journey. Over time, your skills will increase and you will face increasingly difficult threats while protecting your hometown: the quiet and peaceful village of Kamura.
The peace of the village is threatened by the re-emergence of Magnamalo and an onslaught of monsters known as the Rampage. 50 years ago, Kamura suffered devastating casualties from the same threat, but this time it’s up to you to fight the Rampage and defend the village. With a dynamic cast of characters, you’ll battle the impending threat and uncover the mystery of rampaging monsters.
When you have downtime in Kamura, you will hang out with your friends in the village while you prepare for the next hunt. Upgrade your gear, get your buddies in order, and eat some tasty dango.
The hunt is better together
Take on the challenge of killing a monster solo, or go online and team up with up to three others for cooperative hunting fun. * Communicate with other hunters in your lobby via in-game voice chat and enjoy the thrill of hunting with friends or online players. Gather in a hall while you prepare for a hunt or help players with certain quests by fulfilling a request to join. Players on PS5 or PS4 also don’t need to be on the same platform to play together.
Dive into the hunt with PS5
Hunters on PS5 have a few more options to provide an even greater hunting experience.
Monster Hunter Rise on PS5 will launch with two performance options, both of which deliver smooth gameplay and high-resolution image quality: 4K resolution and up to 60 FPS, or 1080P resolution with up to 120 FPS with screens compatible.
With 3D audio on PS5, immerse yourself even further in the experience with spatial audio that adds depth and makes you feel like you’re right there in the hunt.
Monster Hunter Rise takes advantage of the PS5 DualSense controller’s adaptive triggers for added feedback and resistance with Gunner weapons, and a light but punchy kick when blocking with a shield.
Last but not least, Monster Hunter Rise fully supports trophies on PS5 and PS4, so you can keep track of all of our hunting achievements (and brag about it to your friends).
Hundreds of hours… and more to come
Monster Hunter Rise is already loaded with a treasure trove of content, including title updates and event quests for the base version of the game (up to version 10.0). Rest assured there’s plenty to do here, and you’ll want to make sure you’re well-equipped for what awaits you…
Later in the spring of 2023, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak’s massive expansion will take hunting to the next level by introducing new Master Rank monsters, new locations, and an all-new story full of challenging threats. While Monster Hunter Rise introduces new monsters inspired by Japanese folklore, Sunbreak introduces monsters from Western folklore, like the vampire-inspired Elder Dragon Malzeno.
It’s safe to say there’s a lot to look forward to once you hit the base game.
The hunt is on
To recap, Monster Hunter Rise will launch digitally on PS5 and PS4 on January 20, 2023. Pre-orders are available today and net you a bonus adorable layered armor for your Palamute and Palico. You will also get a novice talisman to help you in the early stages of the game.
