One Reddit user admits that playing Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War would occasionally cause their console to crash, but they could always just restart it – until recently, it crashed and wouldn’t come back on at all. The news of this has understandably concerned other Xbox Series X owners, who don’t want to risk playing games at all if it means locking up their console.
Fortunately, developer Treyarch has learned of the problem and is already looking to fix it with a patch. It has been added to the official Trello board, so players can stay up-to-date on it and other issues affecting the game. However, at the time of writing, it is unclear how long gamers will have to wait until this brick issue is fully resolved.
In the meantime, Treyarch has provided some recommendations that should help people avoid it for now. First of all, avoid accidentally downloading the Xbox One version, as mentioned above. Second, turn off ray tracing. Although the feature has been one of the new generation’s biggest selling points, turning it off has been reported to have helped gamers mitigate crashing issues.
