According to Shpeshal Nick, co-founder of XboxEra and one of the members of the podcast, Ubisoft is currently developing a new Prince of Persia in 2D. As if that were not enough, Jordan Mechner would be working with the French publisher for what would be the restart of the saga.
In this way we would receive two installments of the franchise that was born in 1989, the first game would be the remake of the Sands of Time that has been so criticized even though it has not yet been released. This was going to be released months ago but has been delayed until further notice due to criticism of the graphics in the trailer.

Now we would also receive a new one in 2D, the perspective with which Prince of Persia became famous. Mechner’s help can be very beneficial to Ubisoft, which already requested his help in 2003 when it wanted to reimagine the franchise with 3D environments. That year Prince of Persia: Sands of Time received several nominations for the game of the year and coincidentally that is the title that a remaster will have.
However, this is not what Mechner and Ubisoft work on, but one with a 2D perspective like the classics. For now this is just a rumor that many fans wish it to be real and we do not know how long it will take to confirm it, but the truth is that it would make sense for Ubisoft to return to what made it successful.
In addition, Mechner has answered the phone in every call related to the franchise he created, including the movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal (where he was a writer and producer) or the graphic novel of the First Second Books franchise.
