According to Valve, which granted new statements to IGN, they still haven’t gotten any games that the Steam Deck can’t handle. Of course, they have clarified that most of the most demanding titles would run at 30 FPS, something that many players consider insufficient to play.
The subject of FPS is one of debate, especially since consoles have been offering this amount of images per second for a long time. Therefore, it has been proven that a device running games at 30 FPS is more than valid, especially if it is portable like the Steam Deck.
The game you want
In the same way, Valve remembers that more than a console it is a portable PC, so we can modify the graphic settings so that some games run better or worse. In the end, the control of the FPS falls into our hands if we are willing to play in “medium” or “low” instead of “ultra”.
On the other hand, in the interview there are several designers who also talk about the ergonomics of the console and what they thought to add certain things. The trackpads are revealed as essential to the design of the Steam Deck, since they considered that many were not good enough with only the sticks.
From Valve they admit that the trackpads have been controversial since they attached them to the Steam Controller, a peripheral that divided the opinions of the players. However, they have redoubled the bet since the pointer of the Steam Deck will be controlled with these.
The Steam Deck will arrive in December and it seems that we will have to wait until then to check its performance. On paper it is quite powerful for the vast majority of games, but it is always better to wait for the first benchmarks.
