Apple TV+ could broadcast the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup!
Apple is seeking to consolidate its strategy for transmitting sports content on Apple TV+. After acquiring the rights to the Major Soccer League and obtaining many more subscriptions than expected, the service is close to reach a deal with FIFA for global television rights to a World Cup-style tournament to be played in the United States in 2025.
The negotiations are believed to have prospered in all respects in favor of Apple. Well, in addition to being the candidate with the most possibilities, could pay for a quarter of the $4 billion target
Apple TV+ could broadcast the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup
The tournament Apple wants to broadcast is described as “A month-long World Cup-style competition for the best teams that will be played for the first time in the United States next summer.” The first tournament was originally scheduled for 2021 in China, but was delayed due to the pandemic.
According to a new report from the New York Times, th is would be the first time FIFA has entered into a single global contract.
It is unclear whether the deal with Apple will include free streaming rights, meaning the entire event could be available only to Apple TV+ subscribers, a factor that worries top FIFA executives .
If this agreement is confirmed, it would be Apple’s second foray into the football sector. For now, the platform offers its MLS Season Pass subscription for $14.99 per month or $99 per season.
At the same time, the company is involved in other disciplines. After more than a year, Apple is still competing to secure at least part of the NBA streaming rights starting with the 2025-2026 season. Although the NBA is aiming for deals that last 10 years or more.
According to a report from The Athletic:
The NBA will consider partnering with ESPN, Amazon, Apple, Google/YouTube TV (perhaps several of them) to potentially bring local games directly to consumers. However, one major model being considered would not offer exclusive rights to those outlets, according to executives briefed on the plans.
Although Apple’s interest in sports began a long time ago, the fact that the deal with the Major Soccer League has been so profitable for the Apple company is undoubtedly a great incentive to increase the bet and take out your wallet to make these deals.
