Although the most expensive cell phones are the ones that make almost all the headlines, in Europe the mid-range is very popular, seeking a balance between the cutting-edge features of the high-end and a more affordable price. For many users, this is very tempting, and realme is one of the brands that have carved out a niche in the market thanks to this type of device.
The key to Realme’s success is what it calls the “lineup number”, which last year included the realme 11 Pro and realme 11 Pro+, but was a bit “lame” due to the absence basic models. This made the price of entry into the bracket a bit higher than we were used to, and at the time we wondered if the strategy made sense.
In 2024, the company tried to do things differently. It started by launching the Pro versions of the realme 12 last March, and thanks to its success it has now confirmed the launch in Europe of the basic and cheaper versions, which could be more attractive for some users.
New realme 12 for Europe
In Europe, the new realme 12 range will be made up of three phones: realme 12 5G, realme 12+ 5G and realme 12x 5G. Even though there seem to be several models at once, the company assures that its philosophy remains “quality over quantity” and that with these devices it seeks to “raise the bar” in this segment.
The jewel of the new range, and the most efficient model, will be the real me 12+, thanks to the fact that it is based on the MediaTek Dimensity 7050 processor which promises to represent a quantum leap in performance, with a high score in tests such as AnTuTu. And although the company has not specified it, the Chinese version of this mobile also has more advanced hardware, of which a 120 Hz AMOLED screen will also be its strong point, with a Sony main camera, based on a 50 Mpx LYT 600 sensor. with integrated 2x zoom.
Although the realme 12+ maintains the same design lines as the rest of the range, the camera array will be larger and the rear will have exclusive colors and a vegan leather finish. Additionally, it will be the first model in the segment to feature waterproof touchscreen technology, which allows you to use the screen, even if it is wet
At the other extreme is the basic model, the real me 12, which will rely on a MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ processor, which will obviously be less powerful, but which also promises enough performance for a “smooth experience”, according to the company. Also notable is the presence of a 5,000 mAh battery with 45 W fast charging, very important aspects in this range.
Finally, the new real me 12x This is an upgraded version of the base Realme 12, based on the same processor and, for the most part, the same “hardware”. At the moment, the company hasn’t specified what differentiates it from the base model, beyond a “Light Feather design” that shows feather patterns in sunlight.
We’ll know more about all of these devices, including their pricing, when they launch next time May 14.
