300 million devices this year

Harmony OS is Huawei’s own operating system, which launched late last year in beta form for some of its phones and which we hope will officially arrive in Europe this year. This year, the first devices that use it natively are expected to officially hit the market.

Already in December, we were talking that in 2021 some 100 million devices would use Harmony OS, a figure that many considered unrealistic. It looks like the brand has high hopes for this system, as Huawei actually expects to see 300 million devices in 2021 using this system.

Huawei continues to develop its alternative to Android, Harmony OS 2.0, but surprisingly uses Google’s system as a base.

Harmony OS on 300 million devices

The decline in smartphone sales, but the increase in sales of related devices (such as wearables or smart home devices), one of the main issues is that each device uses different software. Huawei seeks to solve this problem with its operating system, using it on all these devices.

For this reason, Huawei expects that in 2021 Harmony OS is used on around 300 million devices. Some 200 million devices would be the brand’s own devices, but as Huawei will also transfer it to other brands, they believe that around 100 million devices will come from third-party brands that use this operating system. Although at the moment it is not known which other brands will use it on their devices.

Using Harmony OS on a wide variety of devices works in Huawei’s favor, although 300 million devices seems an unrealistic number. In the meantime, we hope that the brand’s first mobile phones with this operating system will be launched soon.
