With the arrival of the PS5, many users are considering giving the previous PS4 model to a parent, or preparing it for sale and making some cash before leaving it stuck on a shelf in the bedroom.
The PlayStation 5 PS5 is downright powerful as we have seen in our opinion, but that doesn’t mean that there are still people in the market interested in acquiring the previous generation PS4, in exchange for acquiring it at a very good price.
There are several alternatives to sell, either doing it the traditional way with which you will get a higher price, or even using channels such as Wallapop O Milanuncios, or opt for second-hand product sales portals such as Cex.
In any case, before putting your PS4 on sale, you will need to make sure to deactivate the console as the primary device and remove all personal information.
First of all, you should know that if you are going to restore your PS4 with ‘Factory Reset’ mode, this process will completely erase your console hard drive, with which you can remove the system software.
This is the way to make sure that the console does not have any of your data stored on the drive. We explain both processes so you can do the one that’s right for you.
How to deactivate your PS4
- Go to ‘Configuration parameters’
- Select “Account management”
- Select ‘Activate as your primary PS4’
- Choose “Disable”
- Select the option ‘Yes’
How to reset your PS4 to factory settings
- Go to ‘Configuration parameters’
- Scroll down and select ‘Initialize’
- Choose the option “ Initialize PS4 ”
- Choose the option ‘Full’
Keep in mind that the process can take up to an hour to erase all of your personal data, so be especially careful not to turn off the console until the process is complete. All your data will be erased.
How to safely reset your PS4
If it turns out that you can’t even get to the “ Settings ” menu to reset your PS4, you can also access the “ Initialize PS4 ” option from within safe mode.
Enter “Safe Mode” by turning off the console, then pressing and holding the console’s power button for approximately eight seconds, until you hear two beeps.
We recommend that you be careful when choosing the “Initialize PS4” (Reinstall System Software) option, as it will require you to reinstall the software from another device. Use this option only as a last resort.
