Apple is said to be working on a cheaper version of the expensive Pro Display XDR monitor for consumers.
This monitor is priced at 5000 dollars and it doesn’t even come with a stand (if you want a stand it’s 1000 more). The new, cheaper monitor will be designed for consumers, so it will likely be much cheaper. This is what we know.
Apple screen release date
According to a Bloomberg report from January 15, 2021, Apple plans to sell a cheaper external monitor. Apparently, work has started on this new monitor, but no release date has been suggested.
We anticipate that Apple could launch this new, cheaper monitor alongside an updated Mac Pro. The company is said to be working on two new Mac Pro models, one of which is inspired by the G4 Cube and would likely fall somewhere between the iMac and the Mac Pro in terms of market. We may see the launch of this new monitor alongside him.
One indication that something could happen sooner rather than later is the news that Apple has stopped selling LG’s two displays in most of its European stores. However, the displays are still available in the US and UK.
Apple screen price
This new monitor is apparently aimed at consumers and not for professional use, so we expect a much lower price point than Pro Display XDR, Apple’s current monitor, which costs $ 5,000 and doesn’t even come with a stand. Support costs another 1,000.
However, it won’t be the first monitor Apple will sell to more general consumers. Apple discontinued the 2016 Thunderbolt Display. This model, launched in 2011, cost $ 999 when Apple discontinued it.
Prior to the arrival of the Thunderbolt d isplay in 2011, Apple had sold various sizes of Cinema displays from 20 to 30 inches. Prices started at around $ 899.
Specifications of the new Apple monitor
The Pro Display XDR is the monitor Apple is currently selling and it could give us some clues as to what to expect from the rumored cheapest option. For example, the Pro Display XDR offers a 32-inch 6K display, so we could see a similar resolution on the new, cheaper display (whereas the XDR could go up to 8K).
However, we don’t expect Apple’s new display to deliver the brightness and contrast ratio of Pro Display XDR. The XDR offers 1,600 nits of brightness, a 1,000,000: 1 contrast ratio and a super wide viewing angle.
We could also take inspiration from the iMac and its 27-inch Retina 5K screen and anticipate a monitor equal to the iMac, but with thinner bezels than the current ones. In this case, we can be sure that there will be 500 nits of brightness, P3 color, and support for 1 billion colors, as well as support for 10-bit spatial and temporal dithering.
