According to Takashi Mochizuki and BloombergSony is preparing to start the system update, which will add an additional M2 SSD storage this summer.. He adds that this update will mainly serve to provide an optimization on the cooling side as well: the maximum speed of the fans should be unlocked in order to avoid possible overheating cases that can be caused by adding a new component. Plans would always change.
A company spokesman replied to the reporter:
As previously announced, we are working on activating memory expansion for M.2 SSD for PlayStation 5. The timing was not disclosed and details will be announced later.
The PS5 was officially released in Europe on November 19th and is still experiencing supply issues.
