Dragon Quest’s 35th anniversary is fast approaching in May, and Square Enix probably has a lot planned for its original JRPG series. Meanwhile, players can now play Dragon Quest 11 S: Echoes of an Elusive Age Definitive Edition on Google Stadia, allowing a whole new audience to get a taste of this iconic Japanese franchise.
Dragon Quest 11 S initially started as a Nintendo Switch exclusive, an improved version of the original Dragon Quest 11 that came out for Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation 4. This improved version came out on other consoles last December, replacing the original Dragon Quest 11 with this definitive shot.
Now, the definitive edition of Dragon Quest 11 is on Google Stadia, initially at a one-time discounted price. The JRPG can currently be purchased for $ 31.99, but will be priced back at $ 39.99 on March 30. Those ready to check out this title on Stadia can do so immediately, as the game was removed along with its announcement this morning.
Former exclusives moving to other consoles are never a bad thing, especially for a game as beloved as Dragon Quest 11 S. The Google Stadia audience seeing this title makes this sudden announcement a welcome surprise for JRPG fans.
However, the audience for Google Stadia is a bit small, so the impact this port will have is unknown. Google Stadia has reportedly done much worse than expected, with poor ads, not many exclusives, and oppressive pricing as common points of contention. While all of those points are definitely up for grabs, at least those who have embraced Stadia can now play one of the most popular JRPGs of recent years.
