This afternoon, rumors surfaced on the network that spoke of the cancellation of the Pixel 5a, that Google was not going to release a new mid-range model this year due to the global processor shortage currently plaguing the industry.
Well, hours later Google denied these rumors, confirming that the The Pixel 5a will go on sale this year, giving its approximate launch date but acknowledging that this supply issue exists and will affect the availability of the next “budget” Pixel.
The availability of the next Pixel 5a
While the new Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 have arrived, they have gone on sale in very few countries – in Europe only the Pixel 4a has gone on sale – along with the new one. Pixel 5a 5G availability will be much lower still.
In an official statement from a Google spokesperson, the company said:
“The Pixel 5a 5G is not canceled. It will be available later this year in the US and Japan and will be announced during the unveiling of last year’s A-series phone.”
It means the new Pixel 5a would announce end of September to go on sale at the end of the year, and as we see in the release, it would initially only go on sale in the United States
Maybe if the component offering improves throughout the year, they could launch the mobile into more markets, as happened recently with the new, second-gen Nest Hub, but it’s is already speculation.
A few weeks ago, the first leaks of the Pixel 5a 5G appeared, which is said to be virtually identical in design to the Pixel 4a 5G, retaining the dual camera and headphone jack.
