In 2019, Gears 5 was the last part of the long-running action series. In the meantime, the makers have the new generation of consoles in view and are working on several projects at the same time.
In a new blog entry, the development studio The Coalition has officially commented on the latest developments around the successful Gears of War brand. This confirms that the studio is now daring to switch to the new Unreal Engine 5 and is using it to keep an eye on developments specifically for the new generation of consoles
Gears of War has always been at the forefront of the titles that were the first to switch to new developments in the Unreal Engine – be it from the 720p title on the Xbox 360 to the 120 fps multiplayer update for the Xbox Series X / S . This tradition is now to be continued in the coming years on the basis of Unreal Engine 5. The Coalition continues to work on “several new projects”.
Even if one waives an official statement beyond that, it can be considered certain that there will also be a direct successor to Gears 5 among them. The switch to the new Unreal Engine also has a catch: Such an engine change is associated with a lot of effort and work, which is why the new developments take more time. That is why it says: “That is why we want to say clearly that we will not announce any new projects or titles for a long time.”
The waiting time until the time comes, however, should sweeten further content on Gears 5 that is on the way. There will therefore be the new operations 7 and 8, with each such content consisting of two drops. These will bring new characters, new maps and new special events with them. In addition, some store updates with new content and featured playlists are being planned.
