Fans have been waiting for a long time: Total War Warhammer III, the final episode that concludes the trilogy that began in May 2016. With some excitement we were therefore able to touch the game for a few hours and in particular on a whole new battle mode. And since the war doesn’t wait, let’s start it immediately!
We were able to play this third episode of Total War Warhammer as it was actually a session completely in cloud gaming mode. However, with a 1 Gbps fiber connection, we had many concerns about a loss when rendering with poor graphics quality (but suddenly not very representative anymore?). Fortunately, our video recording (seen above) doesn’t suffer from the problem. In any case, it was a pretty difficult demo that was to be handled in the truest sense of the word, because beyond the technical aspect we can at least say that the level of difficulty was particularly high.
Total War / MOBA / Tower Defense
The demo actually focused on the mode Domination, a brand new combat mode that is a little more visceral than usual and develops as follows: your weapon must advance from point A to point B, capture a point, build defenses, recruit / deploy new units in real time. Indeed the Total War series that we know takes aspects of tower defense and MOBA Thanks to this game mode. A real breeze of freshness that increases tension. In fact, this game mode is even more tactical as it takes some time to think about the type of units that need to be recruited to face what type of opponent. The longer your troops take a point and the more you fight, the more your score increases. Score a gate that will allow you to recruit new troops to turn the tide of the battle.
“”Free free! I will never lie again! “”
No more need to talk, because despite two attempts the fight was a bitter failure, always at the same time, ie phase three, “the one of the ders”, in which we have to face the big bad guys. In this discouraging clash we played against the troops of Kislev, with the head of the unscrupulous Tsarina providing Katarin, the ice queen, creatures like elementary bears and other little “surprises”. For those unfamiliar with the Warhammer universe, it is known that roughly the weapons of Kislev for the classic troops are inspired by the medieval troops of the Russian Kingdom of Kiev (Kivian Russia), but also the Novgorod Republic. This new episode therefore opens a new chapter in which we must face new hordes of Chaos under the banner of Khorne with his multitude of BloodThirster and Bloodletters to fight. It’s also an opportunity to have a nice variety of factions and troops to command.
It’s difficult to be clear about the graphics quality for the concerns outlined above, but the game appears to be more detailed and has received a nice update to make it more pleasing to the eye. We are certainly far from completely changing the engine, and yet the whole thing remains pretty out of date; and it will certainly be necessary to wait for the next historical Total War to have something new on this page. We will notice all the epic battle animations with the new units available.
The latest episodes
This episode will make it possible to realize the dream of every Warhammer fan and to have a global “world map” with all contents (if you have the previous games) of Warhammer I, Warhammer II and Warhammer III.
We are waiting for it … with impatience!
Even if you’re not an absolute fan of the Warhammer universe, or if you have no affinity for it, it’s hard not to notice the extra step The Creative Assembly has just taken with this new episode. The studio has just offered a “game in a game” with the presence of MOBA and tower defense mechanics. A big step forward that we can’t wait to see in more detail on PC by the end of 2021.
