Bungie’s work on cross-play for Destiny 2 is nothing new. After all, the feature slipped through the update to the season of the splicer and was usable for a while. But now it’s official.
The fact that cross-play was already active at the start of the season was simply due to a bug and the plug was pulled again pretty quickly. But now it’s official, because Bungie is launching a beta event for cross-play next week, which, by the way, should be introduced in season 15 according to the current status.
From May 25th to 27th you now have the opportunity to try out the cross-play live and in color. For this purpose, Bungie provides a special vanguard strike list in which players from PlayStation, Xbox, Steam and Stadia can go hunting together via matchmaking.
Bungie will also monitor the event with eagle eyes in order to gain knowledge and work on the stability of the cross-play. It should be said that the cross-play beta is initially limited to the playlist and the automatic player search. Invitations to friends on other platforms or creating Fireteams yourself is not possible for the time being. The reason for this is that it is precisely this matchmaking that is the focus of the test.
Destiny 2 has supported cross-save between all platforms for quite some time. The addition of cross-play is certainly a logical step that should be taken with season 15 in August 2021. It remains to be seen how Bungie will regulate cross-play in PvP, since mouse-keyboard players usually have clear advantages over console players.
